Mount Stuart
Mount Stuart is a mountain in the Cascade Range, in the U.S. state of Washington. It is the second highest non-volcanic peak in the state, after Bonanza Peak and seventh-highest overall. Mount Stuart is the highest peak in the Stuart Range, and it is located in the central part of the Washington Cascades, south of Stevens Pass and east of Snoqualmie Pass in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Name Mount Stuart was given its name by George B. McClellan in September 1853 in honor of his oldest and best friend, "the late Capt. Jas. immieStuart of the Rifles—a gallant soldier & accomplished gentleman." Stuart had died of an arrow wound on June 18, 1851, following a skirmish with Native Americans at the base of the Siskiyou Mountains in southwest Oregon. Mount Stuart House
Mount Stuart House, on the east coast of the Isle of Bute, Scotland, is a country house built in the Gothic Revival style and the ancestral home of the Marquesses of Bute. It was designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson for the 3rd Marquess in the late 1870s, replacing an earlier house by Alexander McGill, which burnt down in 1877. The house is a Category A listed building. Background The house is the seat of the Stuarts of Bute, derived from the hereditary office "Steward of Bute" held since 1157. The family are direct male-line descendants of John Stewart, the illegitimate son of King Robert II of Scotland, the first Stuart King, by his mistress, Moira Leitch. Mount Stuart is a rural locality and settlement in South Otago, New Zealand. It is located between Manuka Creek and Glenore on New Zealand State Highway 8, State Highway 8, approximately halfway between Milton, New Zealand, Milton and Waitahuna. It sits close to the upper reaches of the west branch of the Tokomairiro River, just below the confluence with the Manuka Stream. Mount Stuart is notable for its tunnel (also known as the Manuka Creek tunnel), formerly part of an access line for the Roxburgh Branch rail line, which is now open as a walking track. The 7.7 megawatt, MW Mount Stuart Wind Farm, located 4km to the northwest of the settlement, was commissioned in 2012. Mount Stuart is a suburb of Hobart that lies on a ridge that extends from a foothill of Mount Wellington, known as Knocklofty. History The original owners of the land, upon which Mount Stuart is built, were known as Mouheneenner band of the South East tribe of Tasmanian aborigines. Ownership of the land began to change after British occupation of the land began in 1803. Etymology The name Mount Stuart comes indirectly from a Governor of Bombay (Mumbai) in India, Mountstuart Elphinstone. Mountstuart was the fourth son of the eleventh Lord Elphinstone, and was born in Dunbartonshire, Scotland. A ship, the ''Mountstuart Elphinstone'', was named in honour of the Governor, and in 1836, this ship visited Hobart town. The Mountstuart Elphinstone brought the news that the unpopular Lieutenant-Governor George Arthur, was ordered to return to London. This allowed reversal of some of his unpopular Laws. Mount Stuart is a locality in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the , Mount Stuart had no population. Geography The Ross River forms the western boundary of the locality. The Ross River Dam is at the south-west of the locality which forms Lake Ross which is the south-western boundary of the locality. The terrain is mountainous rising to the peak of Mount Stuart (584 metres) (). There is a lookout at the top of the mountain with views over the Townsville area. It is accessed via the Mount Stuart Road which commences at Stuart Drive in neighbouring Roseneath. As at November 2018, the locality is otherwise undeveloped. Central Mount Stuart
Central Mount Stuart is a mountain peak situated in the southern Northern Territory of Australia. It is a prominent landmark easily seen from the nearby Stuart Highway, which at closest approach lies about to the southeast. The dark red sandstone that comprise the peak, referred to by geologists as Central Mount Stuart Formation, form part of the Georgina Basin. Around it is the Central Mount Stuart Historical Reserve. It lies within the traditional lands of the Anmatyerre people. The mountain is named in honour of Scottish explorer John McDouall Stuart.
