Mount Stuart, Queensland
Mount Stuart is a locality in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the , Mount Stuart had no population. Geography The Ross River forms the western boundary of the locality. The Ross River Dam is at the south-west of the locality which forms Lake Ross which is the south-western boundary of the locality. The terrain is mountainous rising to the peak of Mount Stuart (584 metres) (). There is a lookout at the top of the mountain with views over the Townsville area. It is accessed via the Mount Stuart Road which commences at Stuart Drive in neighbouring Roseneath. As at November 2018, the locality is otherwise undeveloped. History The mountain and hence the locality were named after Clarendon Stuart, a surveyor who undertook the first survey of the Town of Bowen in 1861. Electoral District Of Burdekin
Burdekin is an electoral district in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in the state of Queensland, Australia. Centred on the Ayr–Home Hill region, the electorate also includes some of Townsville's southern semi-rural localities as well as the coal-mining towns of Collinsville, Moranbah and Clermont. The Burdekin River flows through part of the electorate. History The 1949 redistribution abolished the electoral district of Bowen. Part of Bowen was combined with part of Mundingburra (which continued as an electorate, but more centred on Townsville) to create the new electoral district of Burdekin, centred on Ayr and Home Hill. Ross River Dam
The Ross River Dam is a rock and earthfill-filled embankment dam across the Ross River, located between Kelso and Mount Stuart in the City of Townsville in northern Queensland, Australia. Built initially for flood control, Lake Ross, the impoundment created by the dam, serves as one of the major potable water supplies for the region. The dam reached 250% capacity in February 2019 as a result of mass rainfall and flooding in the area. Location and features The dam was constructed by Leighton Contractors in 1971 for the purposes of flood mitigation and water storage. The dam was an attempt to address Townsville's dual water concerns--abundance and scarcity--and added to the city's long history of attempting to tame the natural environment. Bathurst Correctional Centre, originally built as Bathurst Gaol in 1888, is a prison for men and women located in the city of Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia, and operated by the Department of Communities and Justice. Bathurst holds inmates sentenced under State or Australian criminal law, along with a small number of remand prisoners. The prison is made up of three sections: a medium-security and remand facility for male inmates, a minimum-security facility for male inmates, and a new maximum-security facility for male inmates, due to open in 2020. Mount Stuart is a mountain in the locality of Mount Stuart in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It overlooks Townsville with an elevation of 584 metres.
