The Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers athletic teams represent Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. "The Mount" competes in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I athletics as a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Mount sponsors 22 intercollegiate sports. Coppin State Eagles Men's Basketball
The Coppin State Eagles men's basketball team represents Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The school's team currently competes in the NCAA Division I in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Before joining NCAA Division I, the Eagles were the 1976 NAIA National Champions. Georg Werthner
Dr. Georg Werthner (born April 7, 1956, in Linz) is a decathlete from Austria, who was the first athlete to finish four Olympic decathlons. In the 1988 Olympics, Daley Thompson crossed the finish-line a little more than 18 seconds after him to become the second athlete to do this. Werthner was the Austrian national champion in the decathlon 8 times (1975, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1986, and 1988), along with being individual event champion in long jump (1977), triple jump (1977, 1979, 1980, and 1982), javelin throw (1979-1981, 1983, 1984, and 1988). Running with his ULC Linz club, he was a member of their 1980 and 1981 winning 4x100 metres relay team, and their 1980 4x400 metres relay team. Peter Rono
Peter Kipchumba Rono (born 31 July 1967) is a former Kenyan athlete, who won the 1,500 metres at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Career Born in Kamobo village, near Kapsabet, Rono won the gold medal at the Africa Cross Country Championships in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1985 and in 1986 he was the silver medallist in the 1500m at the World Junior Championships in Athens, Greece. In 1987, he was a semi-finalist in the 1500m at the World Championships in Rome, Italy. He attended St. Patrick's High School, Iten where he was trained by Brother Colm O'Connell, an Irish Patrician missionary and headmaster of the school at that time. At the 1988 Olympic Games, Rono managed to closely defeat the main favourites, Peter Elliott and Steve Cram of Great Britain, thus becoming the youngest Olympic Champion at 1500 m (21 years and 62 days). Kipkoech ("Kip") Cheruiyot (born December 2, 1964) is a retired middle distance runner from Kenya. Biography At the 1982 African Championships, he won 1500 metres gold medal, leaving the famous Saïd Aouita to second place. Cheruiyot was then slightly less than 18 years old. In 1983, he broke the world junior record at men's 1500 metres by running 3:34.92 in Munich.
