Mount Royal (TV Series)
''Mount Royal'' was a Canadian prime time television soap opera that aired on CTV. It premiered January 3, 1988 with a two-hour episode. The series starred Patrick Bauchau and Domini Blythe. It is said to be Canada's answer to the American soap opera ''Dynasty''. Setting The series was set in an upscale Montreal neighbourhood. It followed the Valeur family. Andre Valeur his wife Katherine and their three children Danielle, Stefanie and Rob. The Valeur family not only had a home in Montreal but also in Paris and they spent much time there during the show's short run. Production The series was produced by CTV, Alliance Communications and the French production company Société Française de Production. It was filmed in both Montreal and Paris and at the time was one of the most expensive Canadian television productions, with a budget of $17 million. Robert Lantos
Robert Lantos, Order of Canada, CM (born 3 April 1949) is a Hungarian-Canadian film producer. Life and career Lantos was born on 3 April 1949 in Budapest, the son of Ágnes (Bodor) and László Lantos, a mechanic and truck company owner. Lantos spent much of his childhood in Montevideo, Uruguay, where his family fled after the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. He immigrated to Canada in 1963. Lantos studied literature at McGill University in Montreal and graduated with a BA (1970) and an MA (1972). Following graduation from McGill, he founded Vivafilm which imported and distributed foreign films across Canada. Alliance Films (formerly Alliance Entertainment, Alliance Communications, Alliance Atlantis Releasing Ltd, Motion Picture Distribution LP and also known as Alliance Vivafilm in Quebec and also known simply as Alliance) was a Canadian motion picture distribution and production company, which had served Canada, the United Kingdom, and Spain. Alfredo Peter "Alfie" Zappacosta (born July 5, 1953), also known by just his surname, is an Italian-born Canadian musician. Career Zappacosta's first band was Surrender, a five-piece group that recorded three albums in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1984, he recorded his first solo album, ''Zappacosta'', which contained the hit singles "Passion" and "We Should Be Lovers". As a result, he won the Juno Award for " Most Promising Male Vocalist" the same year. In 1985, Zappacosta lent his voice to the Canadian charity song "Tears Are Not Enough", produced by David Foster, singing the lines "Maybe we could understand the reasons why" in the fifth stanza, with Dalbello. His second album, ''A to Z'', was released in 1986 and featured the hit singles "When I Fall (In Love Again)" and "Nothing Can Stand in Your Way". Sherry Kean (born Sherry Huffman) is a former Canadian pop and country singer, who had a Canadian Top 40 hit in 1984 with "I Want You Back". Career Kean was originally the lead vocalist for a Toronto band called The Sharks, consisting of herself, David Baxter, Bazil Donovan and Cleave Anderson. The band released only one single before Kean left to pursue a solo career. Baxter joined Kean's solo band, while Donovan and Anderson went on to join Blue Rodeo. Kean performed backing vocals on ‘’Chinese Graffiti’’ by Blue Peter in 1981. Kean signed to Capitol-EMI, and released the EP ''Mixed Emotions'' in 1983. Martha Henry
Martha Kathleen Henry (née Buhs; February 17, 1938October 21, 2021) was an American-born Canadian stage, film, and television actress. She was noted for her work at the Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario. Early life and training Martha Kathleen Buhs was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 17, 1938. Her parents, Kathleen (née Hatch) and Lloyd Howard Buhs, divorced when she was around five years old. She grew up in the northern Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, attended the Kingswood School (today Cranbrook Kingswood School), and graduated from the drama department at Carnegie Institute of Technology before moving to Canada in 1959. She later adopted the stage surname Henry, the legal surname of her first husband Donnelly Rhodes, whom she married in 1962. The Gemini Awards were awards given by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television between 1986–2011 to recognize the achievements of Canada's television industry. The Gemini Awards are analogous to the Emmy Awards given in the United States and the BAFTA Television Awards in the United Kingdom. First held in 1986 to replace the ACTRA Award, the ceremony celebrated Canadian television productions with awards in 87 categories, along with other special awards such as lifetime achievement awards. The Academy had previously presented the one-off Bijou Awards in 1981, inclusive of some television productions.
