The boundaries were created in August 1998 for the part in the District Council of Victor Harbor and then again in August 2000 for the part in the Alexandrina Council. Its name is derived from Mount Jagged, a hill located within its boundaries. The Victor Harbor Road passes through the locality. Land use within Mount Jagged is limited to non-broadacre farming and horticulture due to its location within a zone for the protection of groundwater intended to supply the needs of the town of Mount Compass. Victor Harbor Road (and its southern sections Adelaide Road, Hindmarsh Road and Torrens Street through Victor Harbor) is a major road in South Australia that runs south from Main South Road at Old Noarlunga on the southern fringes of suburban Adelaide to Victor Harbor on the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is designated part of route A13. Boundaries for the locality were created in August 1998 for the “long established name.” A school operated from 1920 to 1938 within what is now the locality. Hindmarsh Tiers Road which is maintained by the state government passes through the locality in an east-west alignment with the road forming part of its southern boundary. Land use within Hindmarsh Tiers is limited to “farming activities on large land holdings that do not pollute water resources” due to its location within a watershed protection zone. Port Elliot, South Australia
Port Elliot is a town in South Australia toward the eastern end of the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is situated on the sheltered Horseshoe Bay, a small bay off the much larger Encounter Bay. Pullen Island lies outside the mouth of the bay. Middleton is a town in South Australia on the eastern end of the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula. It lies between the towns of Port Elliot and Goolwa. Middleton is a holiday and tourist destination with a popular surf beach. Goolwa is a historic river port on the Murray River near the Murray Mouth in South Australia, and joined by a bridge to Hindmarsh Island.
