Mount Hagen FC, sometimes abbreviated to Mt Hagen FC, is a semi-professional association football club based in Mount Hagen, Western Highlands, Papua New Guinea. The club was founded in late 2018. The club's competitive debut was in the 2019 edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, where they were drawn into the Highlands Conference. The side finished third behind local rivals Blue Kumuls, missing out on the playoffs on goal difference. History Reports of a club under the name of Mount Hagen FC hailing from the Western Highlands first appeared in late 2018, with the club confirmed as taking part in the 2019 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League in early January 2019. Papua New Guinea National Soccer League
The KPHL National Soccer League, also known as the Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited National Soccer League for sponsorship reasons, is the men's top division of professional soccer in Papua New Guinea. It is a nationwide league formed in 2006 by Papua New Guinea Football Association. It replaced the Papua New Guinea National Club Championship as the country's major soccer competition. In its 13 seasons, the competition has been won by only two clubs: Hekari United won the first eight editions, while Lae City have won the last six. 2019 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League
The 2019 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited National Soccer League, was the 13th edition of Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, the top-tier football league in Papua New Guinea. It started on 26 January 2019. Toti City F.C. were the defending champions. The title was won by Toti City, who picked up their fifth title after defeating eight-time champions Hekari United in the final on penalties. Format A brand new format for the competition was announced on 19 November 2018, with the league being split into the four regions of the country: Northern ( Momase), Southern ( Papua), Highlands and Islands. Western Highlands Province
Western Highlands is a province of Papua New Guinea. The provincial capital is Mount Hagen. The province covers an area of 4,299 km2, and there are 362,850 inhabitants (2011 census), making the Western Highlands the most densely populated province (apart from the National Capital District). Tea and coffee are grown in the Western Highlands. Split to create Jiwaka Province In July 2009, Parliament passed legislation to create two new provinces by 2012. Blue Kumuls (Mount Hagen)
Blue Kumuls is a semi-professional association football club based in Mount Hagen, Papua New Guinea. The club was founded sometime before 1980's. The club has taken part in three editions of the Papua New Guinea National Club Championship with their best finish coming in 2005 when they finished fourth. They also finished as runners-up in the Highlands Regional League on two occasions. The club is currently under the leadership of Elias Wapsiat and is taking part in the 2019 edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, and are through to the playoffs after having finished second in the Highlands Conference. In 2021/2022 season, Blue Kumuls Football Club merged with Aporo Mai of Kutubu form Ape Aporo FC and we finished first in the highlands conference undefeated. Goal difference, goal differential or points difference is a form of tiebreaker used to rank sport teams which finish on equal points in a league competition. Either "goal difference" or "points difference" is used, depending on whether matches are scored by goals (as in ice hockey and association football) or by points (as in rugby union and basketball).
