Mount Ellery
Mount Ellery ( Gunai: ''Barumpa''), with an elevation of AMSL, is a mountain that is part of the Errinundra Plateau within the Errinundra National Park, located in the East Gippsland region of the Australian state of Victoria. The mountain is approximately south of the hamlet of Goongerah. Mount Ellery is the summit end-point for the proposed Sea to Summit walk in East Gippsland. Errinundra Plateau
The Errinundra National Park is a national park located in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. The national park is situated east of Melbourne via the Princes Highway and is centred on the Errinundra Plateau, a southwards extension of the Monaro Tablelands of New South Wales. Features The Errinundra National Park preserves the largest remaining cool temperate rainforest in Victoria and supports some of south eastern Australia's most spectacular old growth forests. There are also many rare and threatened species of flora and fauna, including powerful owls, tiger quolls and long-footed potoroos. Cool and warm temperate rainforest, wet open forest, montane forests and woodlands are the dominant vegetation communities. There is also a sub-alpine wetland. The Gunaikurnai or Gunai/Kurnai ( ) language, also spelt Gunnai, Kurnai, Ganai, Gaanay, or Kurnay ) is an Australian aboriginal, Australian Aboriginal dialect cluster of the Gunai people, Gunaikurnai people in Gippsland in south-east Victoria (Australia), Victoria. Goongerah, Victoria
Goongerah is a community on the Brodribb River, located in Gippsland, Australia, near Mount Ellery. The town's population is about sixty. Goongerah Post Office opened on 21 November 1952 and closed in 1974. Goongerah had one of the smallest primary schools in Victoria, with about 11 students. It closed in 2019. Samuel Calvert (painter)
Samuel Calvert (21 November 1828 – 1 January 1913) was a British draughtsman, printer and artist active in Australia, noted for his wood-engravings, published in contemporary periodicals. He was the third son of the renowned engraver and painter, Edward Calvert. During his period in Australia, Samuel Calvert produced hundreds of engraved illustrations for a variety of publications on a wide range of subjects. Calvert also designed postage stamps for the Victorian government. He was one of the founding members of the Victorian Academy of Art, formed in 1870, and showed watercolours and oil paintings at their subsequent exhibitions. Calvert left a legacy of finely-produced wood engravings depicting landscape, contemporary events and portraits.
