Makhtesh
A makhtesh ( he, מַכְתֵּשׁ (), Hebrew plural: ( – ''Makhteshim'') is a geological landform considered typical for the Negev desert of Israel and the Sinai peninsula of Egypt. A makhtesh has steep walls of resistant rock surrounding a deep closed valley, which is usually drained by a single wadi. The valleys have limited vegetation and soil, containing a variety of different colored rocks and diverse fauna and flora. The best known and largest makhtesh is Makhtesh Ramon. Etymology Although commonly referred to as "craters", these formations are "erosion cirques" ( steephead valleys or box canyons). Negev
The Negev or Negeb (; he, הַנֶּגֶב, hanNegév; ar, ٱلنَّقَب, an-Naqab) is a desert and semidesert region of southern Israel. The region's largest city and administrative capital is Beersheba (pop. ), in the north. At its southern end is the Gulf of Aqaba and the resort city and port of Eilat. Mount Harif
Mount Harif ( he, הר חריף) is a mountain at an elevation of located in the Negev desert in southern Israel. The mountain is located in the central part of the Negev desert, about southwest of the city of Beersheba, northwest of the city of Eilat, at the border with Egypt. The mountain is the second highest peak in the Negev desert, after the peak of Mount Ramon. An Israel Defense Forces, IDF military base is situated on the mountain due to its strategic location on the border with Egypt.
