Mount Alice (Alaska)
Mount Alice is a mountain summit located in the Kenai Mountains, in the U.S. state of Alaska. The peak is situated in Chugach National Forest, rising one vertical mile above the Resurrection River and Resurrection Bay, and northeast of Seward, Alaska, from where it appears as the most prominent peak on the skyline. The mountain's name was officially adopted in 1983 by the United States Geological Survey to honor Alice Lowell Scheffler (1879–1965), the daughter of Franklin G. Lowell, who with his family were the first homesteaders to settle the Seward area in 1883. Climbing The first ascent of the peak was made in 1963 by John Vincent Hoeman, David Johnston, and D. Hilt. The standard route is via the southwest face which entails steep snow and traditional rock climbing. Mount Alice (Colorado)
Mount Alice is a high mountain summit in the northern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The thirteener is located in the Rocky Mountain National Park Wilderness, southwest by south ( bearing 217°) of the Town of Estes Park, Colorado, United States, immediately east of the Continental Divide between Boulder and Grand counties. Just who the namesake Alice was is unclear, but according to one source she was likely a "woman of ill repute". Climbing The standard routes to the summit can be climbed in a long day out of Wild Basin. Most climbers ascent via Hourglass Ridge above Lion lakes or else via Boulder Grand Pass above Thunder Lake. Both are class 3 routes and do not require any technical moves. Mount Alice is a mountain rising to at the south extremity of West Falkland, Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic. It is situated between the bays of Port Stephens and Port Albemarle, due north of Cape Meredith. After the Falklands War the mountain became the home of No. 751 Signals Unit RAF, an air defence radar unit. West Falkland ( es, Isla Gran Malvina) is the second largest of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic. It is a hilly island, separated from East Falkland by the Falkland Sound. Its area is , 37% of the total area of the islands. Its coastline is long. Population The island has fewer than 200 people, scattered around the coastline. The largest settlement is Port Howard on the east coast, which has an airstrip. Other settlements include Albemarle, Chartres, Dunnose Head, Fox Bay, Fox Bay West, Hill Cove, Port Stephens, and Roy Cove, most of which are linked by road and also have airstrips and harbours. In 1986, the population was 265, in 2001, it had fallen to 144 and rose to 160 in 2016. Because West Falkland is outside Stanley or RAF Mount Pleasant on East Falkland it is considered part of the "camp", a Falklander term for the area outside the main settlement.
