Motor Sich MS-500V
The MS-500V is a Ukraine, Ukrainian family of military and civilian turboshaft engines developed by Motor Sich. The new engine is intended for helicopters with a takeoff weight up to 6 tonnes. Its certification is scheduled for the first quarter of 2011, and it will power the new Kazan Ansat-U training helicopter, currently equipped with the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW207K engine. A turboshaft engine is a form of gas turbine that is optimized to produce shaftpower rather than jet thrust. In concept, turboshaft engines are very similar to turbojets, with additional turbine expansion to extract heat energy from the exhaust and convert it into output shaft power. The Motor Sich Joint Stock Company ( uk, АТ «Мотор Січ») is a Ukrainian aircraft engine manufacturer headquartered in Zaporizhzhia. The company manufactures engines for airplanes and helicopters, and also industrial marine gas turbines and installations. The Kazan Ansat is a Russian light, multipurpose helicopter manufactured by Kazan Helicopters. History Kazan Helicopters in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia has been one of the main Russian manufacturers of helicopters of the Mikhail Mil bureau design. In the 1990s management realized that there would be a need for light helicopters in Russia, as the fleet of standard Mi-2s was getting older, and the design itself became obsolete. The Mi-2 was the lightest helicopter in large-scale use in the former USSR, despite being larger than most light Western helicopters.
