Motor Enthusiasts Club
Motor Enthusiasts' Club (MEC) is a motor club based in Dublin, Ireland. History The club was set up in 1957 and some of the original members are still actively involved. The club boasts diverse club activities and involvement in Irish motorsport. Two of MEC past directors have held the position of President of Motorsport Ireland. As of 2019, 4 current club members are representatives in the Motorsport Council, the biggest representation of any club. In 2015 MEC has won the Dick Bailey Award for the best run event in the opinion of the registered competitors for the 2nd year in a row. Long time member Frank Nuttall has been awarded the Jimmy Millard trophy by Motorsport Ireland for his contribution to Motorsport in Ireland over many decades. Motorsport Ireland is the National Governing Body for four-wheeled motorsports in the Republic of Ireland. ''Motorsport Ireland'' is affiliated to the supreme authority for world motorsport, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) based in Geneva and Paris. ''Motorsport Ireland'' jurisdiction covers the 26 counties and has under its umbrella 34 affiliated motor clubs that are the actual organisers of all sporting events. In each year there are approximately 230 events listed in the official calendar and these cover 11 different branches of the sport. Motorcycling Ireland
Motorcycling Ireland, MCI, Motor Cycle Union of Ireland (MCUI) is the governing body of motorcycle racing in the Republic of Ireland. On the 7th of March 2002 the MCUI became the first Motorcycle Federation in the world to reach 100 years old. The motorcycle racing is growing in popularity, in 2019 Mondello Park international circuit is hosting 26 motorcycle racing days, compared to 11 car racing days. Nonetheless, spiraling event insurance costs caused reduction of events in 2017. Controversies In 2016 Motorcycling Ireland blocked a beach race from taking place in Portmarnock on 22 May by submitting an objection to the Fingal County Council, who initially have approved the event. Automobile associations, also referred to as motoring clubs, motoring associations, motor clubs, are organizations, either for-profit or non-profit, which motorists (drivers and vehicle owners) can join to enjoy benefits provided by the club relating to driving a vehicle. A sugarloaf was the usual form in which refined sugar was produced and sold until the late 19th century, when granulated and cube sugars were introduced. County Wicklow ( ; ga, Contae Chill Mhantáin ) is a county in Ireland. The last of the traditional 32 counties, having been formed as late as 1606, it is part of the Eastern and Midland Region and the province of Leinster. Mondello Park
Mondello Park is Ireland's only international motorsport venue and is located in Caragh, County Kildare off the R409 regional road, approximately from Dublin city centre. History The Mondello Park short circuit was designed on farmland near Naas in Co Kildare by Stuart Cosgrave in 1966, following the demise of the Dunboyne motor races on traditional and dangerous roads in Co Meath. The circuit opened in 1968, and was extended via the National Loop the following year. Well-known Irish drivers such as Derek Daly, David Kennedy, Tommy Byrne and Eddie Jordan cut their teeth on the circuit in the 1970s and early 1980s, going on to international fame, but financial difficulties emerged thereafter. Mondello was purchased by businessman Martin Birrane with the Royal Irish Automobile Club in 1986, and Birrane bought the facility outright one year later once the scale of investment became clear.
