Motilal Jotwani
Motilal Wadhumal Jotwani was an Indian writer, educationist, gandhian and a former post doctoral fellow of Harvard Divinity School who specialized in Sindhi language and literature. A winner of Sahitya Academy Award, he was honoured by the Government of India in 2003 with Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award. Biography Motilal Jotwani was born on 13 January 1936 at Rohri, in the Sukkur district of the Sindh region in the British India. His family moved to India after the partition of 1947 and settled in Delhi. After graduating, he obtained a post graduate diploma in journalism from Punjab University in 1959, secured his master's degree (MA) in English literature from Delhi University and joined the university as a lecturer at Deshbandhu College from where he retired as the Reader in Sindhi literature. Rohri
Rohri ( Sindhi: روهڙي; ur, ) is a city of Sukkur District, Sindh province, Pakistan. It is located on the east bank of the Indus River, located directly across from Sukkur, the third largest city in Sindh. Rohri town is the administrative headquarters of Rohri Taluka, a tehsil of Sukkur District with which it forms a metropolitan area. History Rohri is west of the ancient city of Aror. Roruka, as capital of the Sauvira Kingdom, is mentioned as an important trading center in early Buddhist literature. Little is known about the city's history prior to the Arab invasion in the eighth century, but Aror was the capital of the A-Ror Dynasty, which was followed by Rai Dynasty and then the Brahman Dynasty that once ruled northern Sindh. In 711 CE, Aror was captured by the army of Muslim general Muhammad bin Qasim. In 962 CE, a massive earthquake struck the region, causing the course of the Indus River to shift. The followers of Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest figure of the Indian independence movement, are called Gandhians. Sindhi People
Sindhis ( sd, سنڌي Perso-Arabic: सिन्धी Devanagari; ) are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group who speak the Sindhi language and are native to the province of Sindh in Pakistan. After the partition of British Indian empire in 1947, many Sindhi Hindus and Sindhi Sikhs migrated to the newly independent Dominion of India and other parts of the world. Pakistani Sindhis are predominantly Muslim with a smaller Sikh and Hindu minority, whereas Indian Sindhis are predominantly Hindu with a Sikh, Jain and Muslim minority. Sindhi people have been native to Sindh throughout history, apart from that their historical region has always came from the South-eastern side of Balochistan, the Bahawalpur region of Punjab and the Kutch region of Gujarat, India.
