Mother Tongue
A first language, native tongue, native language, mother tongue or L1 is the first language or dialect that a person has been exposed to from birth or within the critical period. In some countries, the term ''native language'' or ''mother tongue'' refers to the language or dialect of one's ethnic group rather than one's first language. The first language of a child is part of that child's personal, social and cultural identity. Another impact of the first language is that it brings about the reflection and learning of successful social patterns of acting and speaking. Research suggests that while a non-native speaker may develop fluency in a targeted language after about two years of immersion, it can take between five and seven years for that child to be on the same working level as their native speaking counterparts. Proto-Human Language
The Proto-Human language (also Proto-Sapiens, Proto-World) is the hypothetical direct genetic predecessor of all the world's spoken languages. It would not be ancestral to sign languages. The concept is speculative and not amenable to analysis in historical linguistics. It presupposes a monogenetic origin of language, i.e. the derivation of all natural languages from a single origin, presumably at some time in the Middle Paleolithic period. As the predecessor of all '' extant'' languages spoken by modern humans (''Homo sapiens''), Proto-Human language as hypothesised would not necessarily be ancestral to any hypothetical Neanderthal language. Terminology There is no generally accepted term for this concept. Most treatments of the subject do not include a name for the language under consideration (e.g. Bengtson and Ruhlen). ''The Mother Tongue'' () is a book by Bill Bryson which compiles the history and origins of the English language and its various quirks. It is subtitled ''English And How It Got That Way''. The book discusses the Indo-European origins of English, the growing status of English as a global language, the complex etymology of English words, the dialects of English, spelling reform, prescriptive grammar, and more minor topics including swearing. This account popularises the subject and makes it accessible to the lay reader, but it has been criticised for some inaccuracies, such as the perpetuation of several urban myths. Craig Parker (born 12 November 1970) is a New Zealand actor, known for his roles as Guy Warner in the New Zealand soap opera ''Shortland Street'' (1992–96, 2007–08, 2020), Haldir in the ''Lord of the Rings'' films ''The Fellowship of the Ring'' (2001) and ''The Two Towers'' (2002), Darken Rahl in the syndicated television series ''Legend of the Seeker'' (2008–10), Gaius Claudius Glaber in the starz series ''Spartacus'' (2010–12), and Stéphane Narcisse in the CW television series ''Reign'' (2014–17). Mother Tongue Publishing is a small independent Canadian publishing company located on the West Coast of British Columbia. Jesse Tobias
Jesse Tobias (born April 1, 1972) is an American guitarist who is the lead guitarist and co-writer for Morrissey since 2004. Tobias first gained fame during a brief tenure with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1993, although he was replaced by Dave Navarro within a month after joining the band. Before he joined the Chili Peppers, he briefly played with the band ''Mother Tongue''. In 1995, Tobias joined the touring band for Alanis Morissette and from 1999–2005 was a member of the musical duo, Splendid. Life and career In 1990, Tobias formed the band ''Mother Tongue'' in Austin, TX. They were signed to record label in 1992. ''The Serpent's Egg'' is the fourth studio album by the Australian band Dead Can Dance, released on 24 October 1988 by record label 4AD. Background The album was the last produced while Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard were a romantic couple. A majority of the album was recorded in a multi-storey apartment block in the Isle of Dogs, London. Perry discussed the album's title: "In a lot of aerial photographs of the Earth, if you look upon it as a giant organism—a macrocosmos—you can see that the nature of the life force, water, travels in a serpentine way". ''Dracaena trifasciata'' is a species of flowering plant in the family Asparagaceae, native to tropical West Africa from Nigeria east to the Congo. It is most commonly known as the snake plant, Saint George's sword, mother-in-law's tongue, and viper's bowstring hemp, among other names. Until 2017, it was known under the synonym ''Sansevieria trifasciata''. Description It is an evergreen perennial plant forming dense stands, spreading by way of its creeping rhizome, which is sometimes above ground, sometimes underground.
