Ashley Mote
Ashley Mote (25 January 1936 – 30 March 2020) was a former Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for South East England from 2004 to 2009. Elected representing the UK Independence Party, he became a non-inscrit one month into his term after UKIP withdrew the whip from him due to investigation into his expenses. A vociferous critic of fraud in the European Institutions, he himself was convicted of benefit fraud in 2007 for which he served a nine-month prison sentence and was described by the trial judge as "a truly dishonest man". The scandal ignited a debate as to how an MEP could receive a prison sentence, yet keep his seat in the European Parliament. James Orin Mote
James Orin Mote (January 27, 1922 – April 29, 2006) was a founding member of the Continuing Anglican movement. An alumnus of Canterbury College (Danville, Indiana) and Nashotah House Theological Seminary, he was consecrated in the Anglican Catholic Church. He was elected as the first bishop of the Diocese of the Holy Trinity in 1977, and consecrated on 28 January 1978 by Bishops Albert A. Chambers, Francisco Paktaghan, and Charles Doren, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado. He served as Bishop of the Diocese until 1994, when he resigned and retired to live initially in Florida, but later in Indiana. Mote became a member of the Royal Academy in his twenties and his portraits hang in the National Portrait Gallery, London. Life Mote was first mentioned in publications as working under the supervision of Charles Heath when he was sixteen or seventeen years old. He became a member of the Royal Academy when he was roughly twenty eight years old. He also was one of many engravers to sign a petition addressed to the King and the Royal Academy in 1837 to protest the limitation of engravers to distinction as "associates".
