Moss–Horten Ferry
The Moss–Horten Ferry is an ferry, automobile ferry on Norwegian National Highway 19 that connects the counties of Vestfold og Telemark and Viken (county), Viken at the quays of Moss, Norway, Moss and Horten. The crossing of Oslofjord is performed with three double-ended ferries operated by Bastø Fosen, making the crossing in 30 minutes, with departures twice an hour. In 2008 the line had a daily ridership of 3720 people and 4086 vehicles. It is the most trafficked car ferry line in Norway. History Ferry crossings in the outer Oslofjord have been documented back to 1582 when the notes of Bishop Jens Nilssøn mention it was common to travel over the fjord, with Jeløya as the east quay. In a letter dated 1712 Frederick IV of Denmark, King Frederick IV asked the governor of Borre, Norway, Borre to build a larger ferry able to hold 16 horses and 50 men. Oslofjord
The Oslofjord (, ; en, Oslo Fjord) is an inlet in the south-east of Norway, stretching from an imaginary line between the and lighthouses and down to in the south to Oslo in the north. It is part of the Skagerrak strait, connecting the North Sea and the Kattegat sea area, which leads to the Baltic Sea. The Oslofjord is not a fjord in the geological sense — in Norwegian the term can refer to a wide range of waterways. The bay is divided into the inner () and outer () Oslofjord, separated by the long by wide Drøbak Sound. The innermost part is known as the Bunnefjorden.
