Moss Idrettslag is a Norwegian athletics club from Moss, founded in 1929. Moss IL uses the Melløs Stadion, which in 1983 got rubber track as the first stadium in Østfold county. Its most prominent members consist of Are Nakkim, winner of the silver medal in 10,000 metres at the 1990 European Championships in Athletics, Geir Moen, a former European and World Indoor champion in the 200 metres. Nakkim still holds the national record in 10,000 m while Moen holds the 100 and 200 m record. Moen also ran for the 4 x 100 metres relay 4 (four) is a number, numeral and digit. Melløs is a borough of the city Moss in Norway. It is located in the south of the city, bordering Kallum in Rygge municipality to the south. Moss, Norway
is a coastal town and a municipality in Viken county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Moss. The city of Moss was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt) and City in 1720. The rural municipality of Jeløy was merged with the city on 1 July 1943. The former municipality of Rygge was merged into it on January 1, 2020. Its administrative district covers areas east of the town, such as the island of Dillingøy in the lake Vansjø. Østfold
Østfold is a traditional region, a former county and a current electoral district in southeastern Norway. It borders Akershus and southwestern Sweden (Västra Götaland County and Värmland), while Buskerud and Vestfold are on the other side of Oslofjord. The county's administrative seat was Sarpsborg. Are Nakkim
Are Nakkim (born 13 February 1964) is a retired Norwegian long-distance runner who specialized in the 10,000 metres. He represented Moss IL during his active career. Are Nakkim attended Boston University, where he ran cross country and track. He won a silver medal in 10,000 m at the 1990 European Championships. He also competed in 3000 metres steeplechase at the 1986 European Championships as well as the World Cross Country Championships in 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992 without any success. In 10,000 m he became Norwegian champion only once, in 1984. He did win the 3000 m chase in 1985–1986 and 5000 m in 1986 and 1988–1990. Geir Moen
Geir Moen (born 26 June 1969 in Oslo) is a former sprinter from Moss, Norway who specialized in the 200 metres. He represented Moss IL. His international senior debut came at the 1989 European Indoor Championships. At the 1994 European Championships he made his breakthrough as he won the gold medal in the 200 metres and the silver medal in the 100 metres. These were Norway's first European sprint medals since Haakon W. Tranberg in 1946. The same year he finished third in 200 m at the 1994 IAAF World Cup. The next year he won the 200 m at the 1995 World Indoor Championships and finished sixth at the 1995 World Championships. He reached an international final for the last time as he finished fourth at the 1998 European Championships.
