''Azolla'' (mosquito fern, duckweed fern, fairy moss, water fern) is a genus of seven species of aquatic ferns in the family Salviniaceae. They are extremely reduced in form and specialized, looking nothing like other typical ferns but more resembling duckweed or some mosses. ''Azolla filiculoides'' is one of just two fern species for which a reference genome has been published. It is believed that this genus grew so prolifically during the Eocene (and thus absorbed such a large amount of carbon) that it triggered a global cooling event that has lasted to the present. Azolla is considered an invasive plant in wetlands, freshwater lakes and ditches. It can alter aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity substantially. Agastache Cana
''Agastache cana'', more commonly known as the mosquito plant, Texas hummingbird mint, and double bubble mint, is a hardy perennial belonging to the genus Agastache (pronounced ). The genus name Agastache is derived from the Greek word meaning "a lot of", and stachy, meaning "spike", which refers to the flower's 12 terminal spikes that decorate the plant. These spikes remain through the growing season from early summer to late fall. The Mosquito Plant is native to New Mexico and western Texas, where it grows in mountainous areas at altitudes of 6,000 feet. Morphology Individuals of this species grow to an average height of 3 feet by 2 feet wide in a shrub habit. Pelargonium 'citrosum'
''Pelargonium'' 'citrosum' (often sold by the invalid binomial name ''Pelargonium citrosum'' ) is a perennial subshrub with fragrant leaves that are reminiscent of citronella. ''P.'' 'citrosum' is marketed as "mosquito plant" or "citrosa geranium" in stores in the United States and Canada, even though research from the University of Guelph indicates the plant is ineffective against ''Aedes aegypti'' mosquitos. "Not only was the plant ineffective at protecting humans against Aedes mosquito bites, the mosquitoes were seen landing and resting on the citrosa plant on a regular basis." It is claimed that ''P.'' 'citrosum' may be a genetic bonding of the African geranium with genes from Cymbopogon grass, but that claim has also been proven false.
