Mosman Art Gallery is the main public art gallery for the Mosman area on the north shore of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The art gallery was opened in 1998 by Mosman Council. Exhibitions have covered diverse topics and subjects. The exhibitions have included first nation artists. An art gallery is a room or a building in which visual art is displayed. In Western cultures from the mid-15th century, a gallery was any long, narrow covered passage along a wall, first used in the sense of a place for art in the 1590s. The long gallery in Elizabethan and Jacobean houses served many purposes including the display of art. Mosman is a suburb on the Lower North Shore region of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.
