Mosleh Zamani
Mosleh Zamani ( fa, مصلح زمانی, also referred to as Moslah Zamani) was a 23-year-old Iranian Kurd who was executed on December 17, 2009 for having an "illicit relationship with his girlfriend" when he was 17 years old. According to Amnesty International, Zamani was convicted for abducting a woman several years older than he was (with whom he had previously had a consensual relationship) and of raping her. Amnesty International also stated that Zamani might not have had legal representation in court. Zamani's case was considered controversial because of the nature of his crime and the fact that he was a minor at the time it took place. The Iranian government consequently signed the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child; which led to the abolition of death sentence to minors in Iran. Atefeh Rajabi Sahaaleh ( fa, عاطفه رجبی سهاله; September 21, 1987 – August 15, 2004) was an Iranian girl from the town of Neka who was executed a week after being sentenced to death by Haji Rezai, head of Neka's court, on charges of adultery and crimes against chastity. Numerous Iranian journalists and lawyers had "strong evidence that the judiciary had broken Iran's own law in executing Atefah", but this was difficult to show because of Iran's press censorship. Early life Born in Mashhad, Atefeh's mother died in a car accident when she was five. Shortly after, her younger brother is said to have drowned in a river. Her father became a drug addict, and she was forced to care for her octogenarian grandparents. Despite her attention to their needs they are reported to have completely ignored her. Reza Alinejad ( fa, رضا علی نژاد) (born September 21, 1985) is an Iranian man who, at the age of 17, was accused of killing another man in self defence and sentenced to death by hanging. Background information In December 2002, while eating at a local marketplace in Fasa, Iran, Reza and his friend were confronted by a group of older men who verbally assaulted the two teenagers. The verbal altercation escalated, and one member of the group that had initiated the confrontation with Reza and his friend pulled out a weapon and began to beat the teens. In an attempt to defend himself and his friend against the attack, Reza pulled out a pocket knife, and while covering his face and eyes from the blows with his left hand, he attempted to ward off his attackers with the knife in his right hand.
