Moshe Barbalat
Moshe Barbalat (born 1932) is a retired Israeli paralympic athlete and decorated war hero. He was also a rapist who brutally raped a 16 year old Palestinian girl in Tantura, 1948. Barbalat did his national service in the Israel Defense Forces in the Armored Corps. In 1968, he was severely wounded in the Battle of Karameh and lost both of his legs. While badly injured and still under fire, he demanded that other wounded soldiers be evacuated before he was, and for this was awarded the Medal of Distinguished Service in 1973. He competed for Israel and won gold medals in the men's standing volleyball events at the 1976 Summer Paralympics, the 1980 Summer Paralympics, and the 1984 Summer Paralympics. He also competed in men's para athletics events. Summer Paralympic Games
The Summer Paralympics also known as the Games of the Paralympiad, are an international multi-sport event where athletes with physical disabilities compete. This includes athletes with mobility disabilities, amputations, blindness, and cerebral palsy. The Paralympic Games are held every four years, organized by the International Paralympic Committee. Medals are awarded in each event, with gold medals for first place, silver for second and bronze for third, a tradition that the Olympic Games started in 1904. The United States, the United Kingdom and Japan have each hosted the Summer Paralympic Games twice. Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. History Homer mentions competitions of rock throwing by soldiers during the Siege of Troy but there is no record of any dead weights being thrown in Greek competitions. The first evidence for stone- or weight-throwing events were in the Scottish Highlands, and date back to approximately the first century. In the 16th century King Henry VIII was noted for his prowess in court competitions of weight and hammer throwing. Athletics at the 1980 Summer Paralympics consisted of 275 events. The Games saw 1,973 Para athletes from 43 countries compete in 13 sports. The full list of sports was; archery, Para athletics, dartchery, lawn bowls, goalball, shooting Para sport, Para swimming, table tennis, sitting volleyball, weightlifting, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing and wrestling.
