Aeroflot Open
The Aeroflot Open is an annual open chess tournament played in Moscow and sponsored by the airline Aeroflot. It was established in 2002 and quickly grew to be the strongest open tournament; in 2013 it was converted to a rapid and blitz event, while in 2014 it wasn't held. The first event had around 80 grandmasters, while in the second event 150 grandmasters participated. Moscow Ladies Open
The Moscow Ladies Open is a defunct WTA Tour affiliated tennis tournament played from 1989 to 1995. It was held in Moscow, Soviet Union, from 1989 to 1990 (under the titles of Virginia Slims of Moscow and Kraft General Foods of Moscow, respectively) and in St. Petersburg, Soviet Union, in 1991 (as St. Petersburg Open) and again in Moscow from 1994 to 1995. Then the tournament was incorporated into the ATP Kremlin Cup, making it a combined event for 1996. The tournament was played on indoor carpet courts. Alexander Lastin
Alexander Lastin (russian: Александр Ластин; 30 November 1976 – 23 January 2015) was a Russian chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1997. Lastin was born in Arkhangelsk and at three years old he moved to Zheleznovodsk. In 2001 he tied for first with Alexander Motylev in the Russian Chess Championship and finished second on tiebreak. Lastin won it in 2002. Lastin competed in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2002, where he was eliminated by Zhang Zhong in round two, after knocking out Ognjen Cvitan in the first. At the FIDE World Chess Championship 2004 he reached the third round, where he lost to Hikaru Nakamura and therefore was eliminated from the tournament. In March 2005 Lastin finished second at the Moscow Open. Later that year, he placed equal second (third on tiebreak) in the 9th Voronezh Open. and won the 7th Kuban Championship - Stepanov Memorial in Sochi. Moscow River Cup
The Moscow River Cup was a WTA Tour International-level professional women's tennis tournament. It took place on outdoor clay courts, in July 2018 at the National Tennis Center of Juan Antonio Samaranch, in Moscow. The tournament will be replaced by Baltic Open. The inaugural year's (2018) prize money was $750,000, a significantly higher amount than the usual norm at WTA International tournaments, WTA International-level events.
