Moscow Airways was a Russian airline that was formed as a subsidiary of Aeroflot to operate the airline's fleet of Ilyushin Il-62s. History It began operating in 1991, flying passengers and cargo, airfreight. Among the airline's destinations by 1993 were Sharjah (city), Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), from where Moscow Airways ferried home South African Muslims returning from pilgrimage. Moscow Airways operated, from 1993 to 1996, an Ilyushin Il-76TD (Aircraft registration, tail number RA-76498) that was built in 1982, and also flew a Tupolev Tu-154M (RA-85681) that carried passengers on charter flights from Sheremetyevo International Airport; both aircraft previously belonged to Aeroflot. Scibe Airlift was an airline from Zaire (today known as Democratic Republic of the Congo), with its base at N'Djili Airport, Kinshasa. History The airline started activities in November 1976 as SBZ Cargo with a single Vickers Viscount. Due to problems concerning the national airline, Air Zaire, Scibe Airlift became the first passenger airline in the country. After covering the whole country, it bought a Boeing 707, which allowed for serving Europe. In the early 1990s Scibe Airlift was at its height, serving a multitude of destinations and leasing its aircraft out to European airlines. In 1992, it operated a DC-10-30 on its Kinshasa-Brussels route. The political instability of the country and the poor financial management of the company brought it to an end. Airlines lease aircraft from other airlines or leasing companies for two main reasons: to operate aircraft without the financial burden of buying them, and to provide temporary increase in capacity.
