Alain Mosconi
Alain Mosconi (born 9 September 1949) is a French former swimmer, Olympic medalist and world record holder. He competed at the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics in six freestyle, butterfly and medley relay events. In 1968 he won a bronze medal in the 400 m freestyle and finished in fifth place in the 200 m individual freestyle and 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. In 1972, his best achievement was seventh place in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. He won two medals at the European Championships in 1966 and 1970. In 1967 he set world records in the 400 metres freestyle and 800 metres freestyle. He was president of General Motors, SEAT and Fiat, in France. Antonio Mosconi
Antonio Mosconi (9 September 1866–12 July 1955) was an Italian businessman and politician who held various political and government posts, including the finance minister between July 1928 and July 1932. Biography Hailed from a family based in Vicenza Mosconi was born on 9 September 1886. He received a law degree from the University of Padua in 1908. In 1911 he was named the secretary of the ministry of the interior. He was appointed municipal commissioner in Trieste in July 1919. When the military authority in Trieste was converted into a civil authority which was named as the provincial civilian government in July 1919, Mosconi headed it after Augusto Ciuffelli. Mosconi's term in this post began in December 1919. From 1920 Mosconi was a member of the Italian Senate and the councillor of state. Enrique Carlos Alberto Mosconi (21 February 1877 – 4 June 1940) was an Argentine military engineer, who is best known as the pioneer and organizer of petroleum exploration and extraction in Argentina. Early life Mosconi was born in Buenos Aires to Enrico Mosconi, an Italian engineer hired to build railways, and María Juana Canavery, an Argentine of Irish descent. Enrico Mosconi founded the town of Villa Gobernador Gálvez on 26 February 1888. Enrico Mosconi wanted a son to be a doctor; his mother wanted her son to follow the family military tradition of Ángel Canavery, his uncle, who had taken part in the Conquest of the Desert. Germano Mosconi (11 November 1932 – 1 March 2012) was an Italian sportswriter, news presenter and a television personality. Biography Mosconi, who was born in San Bonifacio, was a well-known television personality in northern Italy due to his sportscasting on Telenuovo in Verona from the 1980s until his death in early March 2012 . Judah Leon ben Moses Mosconi (born 1328) was a Bulgarian scholar and Talmudist born at Ohrid. Owing to the wars which agitated Bulgaria in the 14th century, Mosconi left his native country about 1360. He traveled in all the three continents of the Old World. He was in Chios and Cyprus, in Négropont (where he became the pupil of Shemariah b. Elijah al-Iḳriṭi), in Laodicea, and later in Egypt (where he studied under Obadiah Miẓri, to whom he owed "the greatest part of his learning"). He was afterward in Morocco, in Italy, and in France. In Perpignan he made the acquaintance of several scholars, among them Moses Narboni and David Bongoron. Lisa Mosconi is an Italian American neuroscientist, educator, and author known for her books ''The XX Brain'' and ''Brain Food''. She is the Director of the Women’s Brain Initiative and Director of the Alzheimer’s Prevention Clinic, both at Weill Cornell Medical College where she is an Associate Professor of Neuroscience in Neurology. Early life and education Mosconi was born in Italy and both of her parents are nuclear physicists. There is a history of Alzheimer's disease in her family which affected her grandmother and her grandmother's two sisters. Paolo Mosconi (13 September 1914 – 14 December 1981) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Willie Mosconi
William Joseph Mosconi (; June 27, 1913 – September 17, 1993) was an American professional pool player from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Between the years of 1941 and 1956, he won the World Straight Pool Championship nineteen times. For most of the 20th century, his name was essentially synonymous with pool in North America – he was nicknamed "Mr. Pocket Billiards" – and he was among the first Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame inductees. Mosconi pioneered and regularly employed numerous trick shots, set many records, and helped to popularize pool as a national recreation activity. During the 1940s and 1950s, the pocket billiards game most often played in competition was called straight pool, or 14.1 continuous, a form of pool considered by most top players to be more difficult than today's fast tournament game nine-ball. Mosconi Cup
The Mosconi Cup is an annual nine-ball pool tournament contested since 1994 between teams representing Europe and the United States. Named after American pool player Willie Mosconi, the event is comparable to the Ryder Cup in golf and the Weber Cup in bowling. Team composition and formats have varied over the years. Currently, each team has five playing members. Each team also has a captain and vice captain, who may be among the players, or may be non-playing additional members of the team. The teams compete over one team match, several doubles matches and singles matches, with the first team to win 11 matches claiming victory.
