Moschato ( el, Μοσχάτο, before 1957: Μπλάσδο - ''Blasdo'') is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Plastiras, Karditsa regional unit, Greece. The community includes the villages Agios Nikolaos and Tsardaki. It is located east of the Lake Plastiras, 4 km southwest of Mitropoli and 12 km southwest of Karditsa. Karditsa ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Καρδίτσας, ) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Thessaly. Its name is derived from its capital Karditsa, a small city of approximately 40,000 people. Geography Karditsa borders the regional units of Trikala to the north, Larissa to the east, Phthiotis to the southeast, Evrytania to the south, Aetolia-Acarnania to the southwest and Arta to the west. The main rivers are Megdovas in the south, the Pineios in the north, and the Enipeas in the east. The Plastiras Dam and Lake Plastiras, located to the west of the city of Karditsa, supply water to the plains and the central part of Greece. Plastiras ( el, Πλαστήρας, Δήμος Πλαστήρα) is a former municipality in the Karditsa regional unit, Thessaly, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Lake Plastiras, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 93.166 km2. It was named after the Greek general and Prime Minister Nikolaos Plastiras. Population 2,412 (2011). Lake Plastiras covers a part of the municipal unit. Its residents are engaged chiefly in agriculture. The seat of the municipality was in Morfovouni. Lake Plastiras
Lake Plastiras ( el, Λίμνη Πλαστήρα) also called Tavropos Reservoir ( el, Τεχνητή Λίμνη Ταυρωπού) is an artificial lake fed by Tavropos (Megdovas) river, located in Karditsa regional unit, near the city of Karditsa, Greece. The lake is named after the Greek general and politician Nikolaos Plastiras, who was the first to visualize the construction of an artificial lake in the area. Initial plans The idea of building a reservoir in the area was allegedly first conceived by general Nikolaos Plastiras who, in 1925, was visiting his hometown in the area. During this time the whole area was devastated by a major flood of the river Tavropos. He put pressure to the Minister of Agriculture, who put together a team to study the case by 1929. The following years till the Second World War the idea was met with opposition by politicians.
