Mortimer Community College
Mortimer Community College is a coeducational secondary school in South Shields, South Tyneside, England. It takes pupils from the age of 11 to 16. It is a specialist Arts and Sports College. The school teamed up with the National Glass Centre for a project to design a large glass mural for the foyer of the school. The glass mural was unveiled by David Miliband, then the UK Foreign Secretary, on 19 March 2010. Christopher Anthony Cook (born 5 May 1979) is an English former competitive swimmer who swam for Great Britain in the Olympics, world championships and European championships, and competed for England in the Commonwealth Games. Cook specialises in the breaststroke, and took gold in the 50 and 100 metre finals representing England at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. He has also competed for Great Britain at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Living in Wallsend, he was coached by Ian Oliver at the City of Newcastle Swimming Club. Spennymoor is a town and civil parish in County Durham (district), County Durham, England. It is south of the River Wear and is south of Durham, England, Durham. The civil parish includes the villages of Kirk Merrington, Middlestone Moor, Byers Green and Tudhoe. History Origins The land on which Spennymoor now stands was once a vast expanse of moorland covered with thorn and whin bushes (Spenny Moor). In 1336 its Toponymy, place-name was recorded as ''Spendingmor''. The name is probably derived from the Old English or Old Norse ''spenning'' and ''mōr'', meaning a moor with a fence or enclosure. Another theory of the place-name's origin is from the Latin ''spina'', meaning thorn (possibly from the Roman influence at Binchester) combined with the Old English or Old Norse ''mōr''. Jason Ainsley
Jason Ainsley (born 30 July 1970) is an English football manager and former player who is currently Head of Football of Spennymoor Town. Playing career Ainsley signed for Football League Third Division side Hartlepool United from Spennymoor in June 1994. In October 1994, Ainsley scored his only professional goal for Hartlepool in a 3–1 victory against Preston. After leaving Hartlepool, Ainsley played for several English non-league sides as well as for clubs in Australia and Singapore. Coaching career In 2006, Ainsley was appointed as manager of Northern League Division Two (the tenth tier of English football) side Spennymoor. Katy Daley-McLean (born 19 December 1985) is an English retired rugby union player, who captained England Women. She also featured for Loughborough Lightning. Playing career She played for England as captain and at fly-half for the Loughborough Lightning in the Premier 15s. Steven Preben Arthur Simonsen (born 3 April 1979) is an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, he started his senior career at Tranmere Rovers before spells with Everton, Stoke City and Sheffield United, Preston North End and Scottish sides Dundee and Rangers. Sarah Jane Millican ( King; born 29 May 1975) is an English comedian, writer and presenter. Millican won the comedy award for Best Newcomer at the 2008 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. South Shields
South Shields () is a coastal town in South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, England. It is on the south bank of the mouth of the River Tyne. Historically, it was known in Roman times as Arbeia, and as Caer Urfa by Early Middle Ages. According to the 2011 census, the town had a population of 75,337. David Miliband
David Wright Miliband (born 15 July 1965) is the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the International Rescue Committee and a former British Labour Party politician. He was the Foreign Secretary from 2007 to 2010 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Shields from 2001 to 2013.
