Thomas Mort (1 December 1897 – 6 June 1967) was an English footballer who played club football primarily for Aston Villa, as a left-back. He also made three appearances for the England national team. Villa signed Mort from Rochdale for £1,000 in 1922 and along with Tommy Smart, was part of a defensive tandem known for Villa as "Death and Glory." He played 13 seasons with the club with 337 appearances. John Mort
John Ernest Llewelyn Mort, CBE (13 April 1915 – 30 July 1997) was an Anglican clergyman who served as Bishop of Northern Nigeria in the third quarter of the twentieth century. Mort was educated at Malvern, St Catharine's College, Cambridge and Westcott House, Cambridge; and ordained deacon in 1940 and priest in 1941. After a curacy in Dudley, Worcestershire, he was the Diocese of Worcester's youth organiser from 1944 to 1948. He was also private chaplain to William Wilson Cash, the Bishop of Worcester, from 1943 to 1952; and vicar of Bedwardine from 1948 to 1952. Henry Mort
Henry Mort (23 December 1818 – 6 September 1900) was a pastoralist, businessman, and politician in Queensland and New South Wales, Australia. He was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly and a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Council. Early life Henry Mort was born on 23 December 1818 at Willowfield, Bolton, Lancashire, England, the son of Jonathon Mort and his wife Mary (née Sutcliffe). He was educated in Manchester and came to Australia in 1840. From about 1841 to 1855 he was one of the pioneers in the Moreton Bay district (now the State of Queensland) working on pastoral stations. He was manager of Cressbrook Station in the Brisbane River Valley for David Cannon McConnel. Helen Mort (born 28 September 1985, Sheffield) is a British poet and novelist. She is a five-time winner of the Foyle Young Poets award, received an Eric Gregory Award from The Society of Authors in 2007, and won the Manchester Poetry Prize Young Writer Prize in 2008. In 2010, she became the youngest ever poet-in-residence at the Wordsworth Trust, Grasmere. David Mort
David Llewellyn Mort (25 March 1888 – 1 January 1963) was a British Labour Party politician. Born in Briton Ferry, Glamorgan, he left school aged thirteen when his father died. After initially working in an outfitters shop, he subsequently entered the local steel works. From the age of sixteen he was a preacher in the Congregational Church. Mort joined the Independent Labour Party in 1906, and in 1915 became South Wales secretary of the Steel Trades Confederation. He was also involved in local politics as a member of Briton Ferry Urban District Council and Neath Borough Council. At the 1929 general election, he was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Eccles. The Second Labour Government formed after the election subsequently collapsed and a National Government was formed. The government went to the country in a general election in October 1931.
