Morse Dry Dock And Repair Company
The Morse Dry Dock and Repair Company was a major late 19th/early 20th century ship repair and conversion facility located in New York City. Begun in the 1880s as a small shipsmithing business known as the Morse Iron Works, the company grew to be one of America's largest ship repair and refit facilities, at one time owning the world's largest floating dry dock. In addition to servicing some of the finest steamships of the era, the company maintained many of the yachts of New York's elite business community, and also occasionally built small watercraft such as tugboats. During World War I, the company was heavily engaged in work for the U.S. government and military. Detective Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse, GM, is the eponymous fictional character in the series of detective novels by British author Colin Dexter. Morse College is one of the fourteen residential colleges at Yale University, built in 1961 and designed by Eero Saarinen. Morse is a former provincial electoral division for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, centered on the town of Morse, Saskatchewan. It is currently part of Green Garden Products, a privately owned gardening company based in Massachusetts. D.M. Ferry & Co. In 1856, Milo T. Gardner, Dexter M. Ferry, and Eber F. Church organized a small seed-growing company, M.T. Gardner & Company (also known as Gardner, Ferry, and Church) in Detroit, Michigan. The first year the company did $6,000 in business. Morse is an unincorporated community located in the town of Gordon, Ashland County, Wisconsin, United States. Morse is located along the Bad River south-southeast of Mellen. History In 1881 the newly formed Bad River Lumbering and Improvement Company began building a milltown where the Wisconsin Central Railroad line touched the Bad River. The town would later be named Morse, but it was initially called ''Jacob's Station'', named after William H. Jacobs, the leader of the Bad River Company. At the same time they began improving a stretch of the Bad River for driving logs from their timber lands upstream to the mill. By next spring the company had completed the sawmill, a shingle and lath mill, a boarding house, a store, a blacksmith shop, and lumber sheds. The mill began sawing in June 1882. Morse is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hansford County, Texas, United States. The population was 147 at the 2010 census, down from 172 at the 2000 census. Geography Morse is located in southwestern Hansford County at (36.060645, -101.476470). Its southern border is the Hutchinson County line. The community is west of Texas State Highway 136, which leads north to Gruver and south to Stinnett. Spearman, the Hansford county seat, is northeast of Morse. According to the United States Census Bureau, the Morse CDP has a total area of , all of it land.
