San Bartolomeo, Morrovalle
The Collegiata di San Bartolomeo is a Roman Catholic church located in Morrovalle, province of Macerata, in the region of Marche, Italy. History Erection of a collegiate church was begun in 1586 under patronage of Pope Sixtus V, and required the fusion of the parishes of San Venanzo, Sant'Angelo, and San Pietro. In 1750 a reconstruction, enlarged the church, and led to the present layout with a single nave and lateral chapels. The transept is short, and the apse semicircular. The present nave decoration dates to the late 19th century. The exterior, mostly brick, is articulated with two stories of pilasters and a central triangular tympanum, the roofline has four flanking spires and a central cross. The central façade window is made of white stone with a balustrade, while the main portal has a rounded arch and triangular tympanum. At the rear of the church is a tall bell tower. Sant'Agostino, Morrovalle
Sant'Agostino is a Roman Catholic church located in the center of the old town of Morrovalle, province of Macerata, in the region of Marche, Italy. History The name of the church and the adjacent Augustinian convent imply that the present structures were likely preceded by older, Romanesque or Gothic, buildings. The present brick church, in a subdued Baroque-style dates to the 17th century. It faces, at an angle, the main square (Piazza Vittorio Emanuele) in the town with a tall bell tower with clock and city hall to the left. The two story façade has a rectangular second story window and flanking brick giant pilasters lacking decoration. The portal has the only decoration in the façade with a white stone triangular pediment with a coat of arms and a semicircular steps. Santuario Della Madonna Dell'Acqua Santa, Morrovalle
The Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Acqua Santa (Our Lady of the Holy Water) is a small Roman Catholic church or Marian shrine located on the Strada Provinciale #10, just outside of the town of Morrovalle, province of Macerata, region of Marche, Italy. History The small brick church was built at the site of a small chapel dedicated to ''Saint Mary of the Snows'', putatively named due to a snowfall on January 5 in the distant past. Tradition holds that three leprous individuals entered town through the gate of the Porta di Sant'Agostino but found no hospitality. Sheltering in the chapel, they prayed to the Virgin. In their dreams they had a vision of the Madonna urging them to bathe in the spring outside the temple. After doing so, they putatively healed, leading the town to erect the present shrine. Corridonia was called, until 1931, Pausula. The name was changed by Benito Mussolini to honor Filippo Corridoni, interventionist syndicalist who died on 23 October 1915. Marche ( , ) is one of the twenty regions of Italy. In English, the region is sometimes referred to as The Marches ( ).
