Morrinsville Sports
History Morrinsville Rugby and Sports Club was formed in 1996, with the combination of two rival clubs Morrinsville United Old Boys and Morrinsville Marist (Formally St Joseph's Rugby Club). Sports have fielded teams in most grades, As, Bs, U21s, U19s since starting. It is by far the strongest club in Morrinsville and one of the strongest clubs in the Waikato. The A team have made it through to the major semi finals four times in 1998 and 2007, 2009 & 2010. In 2009 The A team Made the Final for the 1st time only 2 weeks after the shock death of their coach Darrin Stevenson. The Side went on to win the final against Fraser Tech 26 - 18. In 2010 The A side returned to the final against Fraser Tech once again, unfortunately going down 15 -19. Waikato Rugby Union
The Waikato Rugby Union (WRU) is the official governing body of rugby union in the Waikato area in the North Island of New Zealand. Headquartered in Hamilton, WRU was founded in 1921. Its senior representative team, nicknamed the ''Mooloos'', competes in the Mitre 10 Cup (formerly known as the ITM Cup and Air New Zealand Cup), and won the inaugural Air New Zealand Cup in 2006. The squad plays its home fixtures at the Waikato Stadium in Hamilton. The union's colours are red, yellow and black. History Waikato Rugby Union was founded in 1921. The inaugural representative match played ended in a 15-all draw against Taranaki. Waikato had its first win by their third fixture when they defeated Manawatu 6–0. Brendon Leonard
Brendon Leonard (born 16 April 1985) is a New Zealand rugby union footballer. Leonard plays half-back and made his provincial debut for Waikato in the 2005 National Provincial Championship. He was in the Chiefs wider training group for the 2006 Super 14. After playing for Waikato in their championship winning 2006 Air New Zealand Cup side, Leonard was selected for the Chiefs in the 2007 Super 14. Leonard had a successful Super 14 where he played for Byron Kelleher who missed the first seven rounds of the competition to participate in the All Blacks reconditioning programme. Following the 2007 Super 14 he was selected for the All Blacks squad for the 2007 mid-year Tests and 2007 Tri-Nations. Dwayne Sweeney
Dwayne Sweeney (born 8 August 1984) is a New Zealand rugby union player who is signed for Waikato in the Mitre 10 Cup. His usual position is centre, although he is also comfortable at both wing and fullback. Sweeney is also an accurate goal kicker. Career Sweeney was a member of the Chiefs Wider Training Group in 2006 and was then selected in the squad for 2007 and 2008. He impressed at provincial level in 2006 for the inaugural Air New Zealand Cup 2006 champions Waikato. In 2008 he was selected for the NZ Maori rugby team and made his debut at the 2007 Churchill Cup tournament in England. The New Zealand national rugby union team, commonly known as the All Blacks ( mi, Ōpango), represents New Zealand in men's international rugby union, which is considered the country's national sport.
