Morgenavisen
''Morgenavisen'' is a former Norwegian daily newspaper, published in Bergen, Norway from 1902 to 1984. Its first editor was Anders Stilloff, who edited the newspaper from 1902 to 1915. From its establishment the newspaper was a supporter of businessman and politician Christian Michelsen, and eventually also a supporter for his new political party, the Liberal Left Party. Later the newspaper became a supporter for the Conservative Party. During World War II ''Morgenavisen'' had installed a Nazi editor. From 1942 ''Morgenavisen'' and ''Bergens Tidende'' were the only two remaining newspapers in Bergen, as ''Bergens Aftenblad'' and '' Dagen'' ceased publication. Three other major newspapers published in Bergen, ''Gula Tidend'', ''Arbeidet'' and ''Bergens Arbeiderblad'', had stopped earlier in the war. ''Bergens Aftenblad'' was a Norwegian daily newspaper, published in Bergen, Norway from 1880 to 1942. It supported the Conservative Party. History and profile The paper was started in 1880, and absorbed the long-running '' Bergens Adressecontoirs Efterretninger'' in 1889. The Nazis took over the paper in January 1942 and closed it on 21 April 1942. It did not return when the German occupation of Norway ended in 1945. Anders Stilloff (1866–1941) was a Norwegian journalist, playwright, newspaper editor and theatre critic. His theatre debut was the play ''Sagfører Hellmanns'' from 1902. Liberal Left Party
The Free-minded Liberal Party ( no, Frisinnede Venstre) was a political party in Norway founded in 1909 by the conservative-liberal faction of the Liberal Party. The party cooperated closely with the Conservative Party and participated in several short-lived governments, including two headed by Free-minded Prime Ministers. In the 1930s the party changed its name to the Free-minded People's Party ( no, Frisinnede Folkeparti) and initiated cooperation with nationalist groups. The party contested its last election in 1936, and was not reorganised in 1945. Norwegian Language
Norwegian ( no, norsk, links=no ) is a North Germanic language spoken mainly in Norway, where it is an official language. Along with Swedish and Danish, Norwegian forms a dialect continuum of more or less mutually intelligible local and regional varieties; some Norwegian and Swedish dialects, in particular, are very close. These Scandinavian languages, together with Faroese and Icelandic as well as some extinct languages, constitute the North Germanic languages. Faroese and Icelandic are not mutually intelligible with Norwegian in their spoken form because continental Scandinavian has diverged from them. While the two Germanic languages with the greatest numbers of speakers, English and German, have close similarities with Norwegian, neither is mutually intelligible with it. Norwegian is a descendant of Old Norse, the common language of the Germanic peoples living in Scandinavia during the Viking Age. ''Norsk presses historie 1660–2010'' is a four-volume work about the press media history of Norway. It was published in April 2010 by Universitetsforlaget, and was the first book of its kind in Norway. Structure and production Hans Fredrik Dahl was the superior editor of all four volumes. The first volume, ''En samfunnsmakt blir til. 1660–1880'' was edited by Martin Eide. The second volume, ''Presse, parti og publikum. 1880–1945'' was edited by Rune Ottosen. The third volume, ''Imperiet vakler. 1945–2010'' was edited by Guri Hjeltnes. The fourth volume, ''Norske aviser fra A til Å'' was edited by Idar Flo. While the first three volumes are written in regular prose, the fourth volume is more of an encyclopedia with about 400 "newspaper biographies". Composed of 1925 pages across all volumes, the entire work cost and was finished after eleven years.
