Morgan Philpot
Jay Morgan Philpot (born July 30, 1971) is an American attorney and Republican Party (United States), Republican Party politician. He was a member of the Utah House of Representatives from 2001 to 2004, representing District 45 in Salt Lake County, Utah, Salt Lake County from 2001 to 2004. He was vice-chair of the Utah Republican Party from 2009 and 2010. Philpot was the 2010 Republican nominee for , losing to Democrat Jim Matheson. He unsuccessfully ran for governor of Utah in 2012 and Utah State Senate in 2016. Early life and education Philpot is a native of Molalla, Oregon. While attending the University of Utah, he interned at the White House in 1997. The 2016 Utah gubernatorial election was held on November 8, 2016, to elect the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Utah, concurrently with the 2016 U.S. presidential election, as well as elections to the United States Senate and elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Incumbent Republican Governor Gary Herbert ran for re-election to a second full term in office. Republican challenger Jonathan E. Robert LaVoy Finicum
Robert LaVoy Finicum (January 27, 1961 – January 26, 2016) was one of the activists that staged an armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in January 2016. After it began, the group organized themselves as the Citizens for Constitutional Freedom, of which Finicum was a spokesman. He was the only fatality of the occupation. On January 26, 2016, law enforcement officers attempted to arrest Finicum and other occupation leaders while they were traveling on a remote highway to meet with supporters in the next county. When Finicum's truck was finally stopped by a roadblock, he exited the vehicle into deep snow and was fired upon, but the officers missed. Ammon Edward Bundy (born September 1, 1975) is an American anti-government militant and activist. A car fleet manager by profession, Bundy gained widespread attention by leading the 2016 occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Daniel Hemmert is an American businessman and politician who served as a Republican member of the Utah Senate from 2016 to 2021. He was appointed in August 2016 in order to succeed Alvin B. Jackson, who had resigned the previous month.
