Kerins O'Rahilly's
Kerins O'Rahilly's are a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. They are based in the Strand Road area of the town. They are in Division 1 of the county league which they won in 2006, and compete in the County Championship. History The club was founded in 1927 and was named for The O'Rahilly (1875–1916), a Kerryman killed in the Easter Rising, and Charlie Kerins (1918–1944) of the later IRA, executed during the Second World War. The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. It is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kerry, and for the Kerry county teams. The Kerry branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in the year 1888. Football is the dominant sport in the county, with both the men's and women's teams among the strongest in the country at senior level. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Anthony Gleeson
Anthony Gleeson was a dual player from Tralee, County Kerry. He played at full back for most of his career. Gleeson was unlucky not to have won any senior honors with Kerry, he missed out on the Munster Championship win in 1991 and despite playing in the first round in 1996 did not play another game and therefore did not receive a Munster medal. He did win a Munster Under 21 Championship in 1988. He also played underage hurling with Kerry in the late 80's, he was captain of the team in 1987 when they won the Leinster Minor B Championship. He gave up hurling at a young age to focus on football. He also played with the Kerry Vocational Schools team in the late 80's winning 2 All-Ireland Vocational Schools Championships in 1986 and 1987. Billy O'Shea
Billy O'Shea was a Gaelic footballer from Killorglin, County Kerry. He played with the Kerry intercounty team at all levels during the 1990s and with his club Laune Rangers. At inter-county level, O'Shea won Munster Championships at all levels, Minor in 1990, Under 21 in 1991 & 1992 and Senior in 1996 as captain and 1997. He also played in All Ireland final at all levels, losing Minor in 1990 and Under 21 in 1991. O'Shea won a Senior All Ireland medal in 1997 but was taken off early in the game after breaking his leg after a mix up with teammate Maurice Fitzgerald. Billy O'Shea had great success at club level with Laune Rangers. During much of his playing days, they were one of the top teams in Ireland.
