Morgan City, also known as New Rescue, is an unincorporated community located in Morgan and Marshall counties, Alabama, United States. It is included in the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area, as well as the Decatur Metropolitan Area. It is located atop Brindley Mountain which is approximately halfway between Arab and Huntsville along U.S. 231. Newsome Sinks In this area lies one of the region's densest areas of caves, known as the Newsome Sinks Karst Area. In a span of 50 acres it contains well over 30 documented caves and pits. Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area
The Huntsville–Decatur, AL Combined Statistical Area is the most populated sub-region of North Alabama, and is the second fastest growing region in the State of Alabama, with 659,486 living within the CSA. Newsome Sinks Karst Area is a privately owned karst formation in Morgan County, Alabama. It was listed as a National Natural Landmark in November 1973. Description The valley was named for William Newsome who settled in the area in 1838. It is approximately long and up to wide. The NNL covers , but the total karst area is around . There are more than forty caves in the region extending almost and up to deep. The land is part of the Cotaco Creek watershed. The underlying rock is Bangor Limestone formed in the Mississippian Age. Brindley Mountain
Brindlee Mountain (or "Brindley Mountain") is an isolated portion of the Appalachian Plateau in northern Alabama. It occupies significant portions of Cullman, Morgan, and Marshall Counties and extends into Winston and Lawrence counties. The plateau is formed by a sandstone cap-rock overlying limestone.
