"More to Life" is a theme-song to the early 1990s '' Trainer'' TV series. The song was written by Simon May and Mike Read. The theme won them a TRIC award for Best TV Theme. Sir Cliff Richard (born Harry Rodger Webb; 14 October 1940) is an Indian-born British musican, singer, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist who holds both British and Barbadian citizenship. He has total sales of over 21.5 million singles in the United Kingdom and is the third-top-selling artist in UK Singles Chart history, behind the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Richard was originally marketed as a rebellious rock and roll singer in the style of Presley and Little Richard. Trainer (TV Series)
''Trainer'' was a British television series transmitted by the BBC between 1991 and 1992. It was produced by Gerard Glaister as a follow-up to the long-running series ''Howards' Way''. Filmed in and around the village of Compton near Newbury, the series was set in the world of horse racing. It starred Mark Greenstreet as Mike Hardy, an aspiring horse trainer keen to set up his own stables. Other major characters included local gambler John Grey (David McCallum) and widow Rachel Ware ( Susannah York). The first series of 13 episodes was given the prime time Sunday night slot on BBC1 which had previously been occupied by another Glaister creation ''Howards' Way'' and a horse-racing storyline from that earlier programme provided much of the inspiration for ''Trainer''. However, with ratings of around 6 million, the second series was reduced to ten episodes and shown on Wednesday evenings. Simon May
Simon May (born 15 August 1944) is a British composer. He has composed many British television theme tunes, including ''EastEnders'' and ''Howards' Way'', and the music for the 1988 film ''The Dawning''. Biography Born in Devizes and a pupil of Dauntsey's School, May was a choral scholar at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a degree in modern languages in 1965. While teaching languages and music at Kingston Grammar School, he co-wrote a musical named ''Smike'' with a colleague, history teacher Clive Barnett and songwriting partner, Roger Holman. Following the publicity ''Smike'' attracted, May was contacted by the BBC, who televised the play in 1973, starring Beryl Reid and Andrew Keir. Michael David Kenneth Read (born 1 March 1947) is an English radio disc jockey, writer, journalist and television presenter. "Saviour's Day" is a song by Cliff Richard. It was the United Kingdom Christmas number one single in 1990, the second occasion Richard had a solo Christmas number one (the first being " Mistletoe and Wine"). The video for the song was filmed in Dorset. Composition "Saviour's Day" was written by Chris Eaton and produced by Cliff Richard and Paul Moessl. Eaton wrote the song in October 1989, and took his original version of the song with him to a Christmas party to show to Richard. Eaton had been warned that all of Richard's songs for the following year were already booked in and there wouldn't be any space for it. However, Eaton insisted that Richard listen to the tape he brought along, and so they left the party and listened to it in Richard's Rolls-Royce. "We Should Be Together" is a Christmas-themed song by Cliff Richard. Released as a single in November 1991 in the UK, the song was considered a contender for the Christmas number one spot but peaked at number 10. The song differed from Richard's previous Christmas efforts—primarily being a love song. The promotional video for the single depicts an offshore oil worker who makes the journey back to his home to join his family for Christmas. In the song, at around 3 minutes and 44 seconds, the solo trumpet quotes the second theme from the second movement of Dvořák's '' New World Symphony''. This quote bears significance to the song, as Dvořák wrote this symphony when he was missing his home. The Club holds an annual awards ceremony each March honouring achievement in television and radio.
