Moosonee Station
Moosonee station is a railway station in Moosonee, Ontario, Canada operated by the Ontario Northland Railway. It is the northern terminus of Ontario Northland's ''Polar Bear Express'', located about 12 miles (19 km) south of the shore of James Bay on the north bank of the Moose River. It consists of a single storey station building, sheds, and a small train yard. The station is located on Arena Road, which marks the northern boundary of the townsite. Directly southeast of the station lie the Moosonee Arena, Super 8 by Wyndham hotel, Moosonee Public School and the Moosonee Campus of Northern College. As of April 2021, the train operates four days per week, with an afternoon arrival and early evening departure on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Ontario Northland Railway
The Ontario Northland Railway is a Canadian railway operated by the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission, a provincial Crown agency of the government of Ontario. Originally built to develop the Lake Timiskaming and Lake Nipissing areas, the railway soon became a major factor in the economic growth of the province. After decades of difficult construction through the Canadian Shield, workers reached James Bay in 1932. While blasting the route through the shield, geologists discovered deposits of valuable minerals such as gold, silver, copper and nickel. The railway also made it possible to exploit the timber resources of Northern Ontario. Moosonee Airport is located north-east of Moosonee, Ontario, Canada. The Moosonee Airport was officially opened in May 1970 and a new terminal building was constructed in July 1991, which houses the airport management office and washrooms. There are several small buildings and hangars at the airport. There are no other facilities at the airport. The airport handles propeller or turbo prop aircraft only and helicopters from two helipads next to the terminal building. Moosonee
Moosonee () is a town in northern Ontario, Canada, on the Moose River approximately south of James Bay. It is considered to be "the Gateway to the Arctic" and has Ontario's only saltwater port. Nearby on Moose Factory Island is the community of Moose Factory to which it is connected by water taxi in the summer and ice road in the winter. There is no road connection to the community but flights are provided by Air Creebec and by Thunder Airlines. Moosonee is also the railhead of the Ontario Northland Railway where goods are transferred to barges and aircraft for transport to more northerly communities. Moosonee is not particularly far north, being located at 51°N—which is roughly the same latitude as Saskatoon, Calgary, London (UK), and Berlin—but is colder due to its proximity to Hudson Bay, and isolated due to its lack of road access to the rest of Ontario. Churchill station is a railway station in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. It is served by passenger service Via Rail as well as the Hudson Bay Railway freight carrier. The station is located northeast from The Pas, Manitoba, on the shore of Hudson Bay. It also has Parks Canada exhibits inside.
