Moose River Plains Wild Forest
The Moose River Plains Wild Forest is a tract in the Adirondack Park in Hamilton and Herkimer counties in the state of New York in the United States of America; it is designated as Wild Forest by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Geography Moose River Plains Wild Forest is bounded on the north by the Pigeon Lake Wilderness Area, Raquette Lake and the Blue Ridge Wilderness Area, on the east and the south by the West Canada Lake Wilderness Area and the private lands of the Adirondack League Club, and on the west by the Fulton Chain Lakes and New York State Route 28. The "plains" of the Moose and Red Rivers are zones of grass and herbaceous vegetation that contrast with the forest that covers much of the Adirondack Park. Fulton Chain Lakes
The Fulton Chain of Lakes is a string of eight lakes located in the Adirondack Park in upstate New York, United States. The chain is the dammed-up Moose River, and the dam which creates the chain holds back nearly of water. The lakes are located in Herkimer and Hamilton Counties. Inlet, Old Forge, and Eagle Bay are towns on them. The chain begins near Old Forge and ends before it reaches Raquette Lake. The lakes are named for Robert Fulton, inventor of the steamboat, who proposed connecting the lakes to create an Adirondack canal. They are suitable for pontoon boats (the most popular type in the area), kayaks, and motorboats. The chain is part of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, which begins on First Lake and ends in Fort Kent, Maine. Lands designated as " wild forest" in New York are managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as part of the Forest Preserve. Indian Lake, New York
Indian Lake is a town in Hamilton County, New York, United States. The population was 1,352 at the 2010 census. The name is from a lake of the same name that is largely inside the town. There are no permanent stop lights in the town. Law enforcement is provided by New York State Troopers and Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. The Cedar River Flow is a remote 640-acre (2.6 km2) shallow lake, created by the Wakely Dam on the Cedar River, where there are a number of campsites accessible via a gravel road, 14 miles (23 km) from Indian Lake or 23 miles (37 km) from Inlet. Moose River (New York)
The Moose River is a mountain waterway in Upstate New York which consists of three branches: the North Branch, the Middle Branch and the South Branch. The outlet of Big Moose Lake forms the North Branch in northern Herkimer County. The Middle Branch originates at the Fulton Chain Lakes in Old Forge. And the Southern Branch has its headwaters in Little Moose Lake in Hamilton County. New York State Route 28 (NY 28) is a state highway extending for in the shape of a "C" between the Hudson Valley city of Kingston and southern Warren County in the U.S. state of New York.
