Adrian Moorhouse
Adrian David Moorhouse MBE (born 24 May 1964) is an English former competitive swimmer who dominated British swimming in the late 1980s. He won the gold medal in the 100-metre breaststroke at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea. Since then Moorhouse, a former pupil of Bingley Grammar School, has translated his sporting success to a successful career in the business world, as managing director of Lane4, a consultancy helping individuals and teams around the world reach their fullest potential. Malcolm Moorhouse
Malcolm "Harry" Moorhouse (1866 – 7 June 1955) was an English-born cricketer who played first-class cricket in New Zealand for Canterbury and Wellington from 1884 to 1908. Life and career Moorhouse was born in London and went to New Zealand in his boyhood. He was usually known as "Harry". A middle-order batsman who often kept wicket and sometimes bowled, Moorhouse began playing for Addington in the Christchurch senior competition in the 1883-84 season. In the 1884-85 season he was Addington's only batsman to make a fifty. He played one first-class match for Canterbury at Lancaster Park in April 1884. During the second day of the match, play was suspended while a game of rugby was played on the ground between East Christchurch and South Canterbury. William Sefton Moorhouse
William Sefton Moorhouse ( 1825 – 15 September 1881) was a British-born New Zealand politician. He was the second Superintendent of Canterbury Province. Early life Moorhouse was born in Yorkshire, England, and baptised on 18 December 1825; the oldest son of William Moorhouse, a magistrate, and his wife, Ann Carter. He trained as a lawyer, entering as a student at the Middle Temple in November 1847, and was called to the Bar in November 1860. After working for a time in London, he moved to Lyttelton, New Zealand, with his two brothers (Benjamin and Thomas) in 1851. Soon afterwards, he moved to Wellington, where he resumed his law practice. He married Jane Ann(e) Collins on 15 December 1853 in Old St. Paul's, Wellington. Robert Moorhouse (7 September 1866 – 7 January 1921) was an English first-class cricketer, who played 206 matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1888 and 1899. He also played first-class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) (1891-1900) and an XI of Yorkshire (1894). He was born in Berry Brow, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England. In 217 first-class games overall, he scored 5,337 runs at 18.72 on the difficult pitches of the time. He recorded three centuries, with his best a knock of 113 against Somerset. His other tons came at the expense of MCC (105) and Warwickshire (102*). He took 49 wickets with his right arm medium pace, at a cost of 28.08 apiece, with his best bowling return of 4 for 40 coming against Sussex whilst playing for the MCC. Matthew Moorhouse (1813 – 29 March 1876) was an English Settler, pioneer in Australia, Pastoralism, pastoralist, politician, and Protector of Aborigines in South Australia. He was in charge of the armed party that murdered 30-40 Maraura people, which may have included women and children, now known as the Rufus River massacre. Early life and arrival in Australia Moorhouse studied medicine and obtained the degree of Membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, M.R.C.S. in 1836. Leonard James Moorhouse (14 March 1904 – 4 May 1970) was a New Zealand swimmer who competed at the 1928 Summer Olympics. Early life and family Moorhouse was born in Dunedin in 1904. He had four sisters and two brothers. His father, Charles Edwin Moorhouse, was a keen yachtsman in Otago in his early years. His grandfather, William Sefton Moorhouse, was a nephew of the second Superintendent of Canterbury Province of the same name. As a teenager, he suffered an accident that disfigured his foot, and his left leg was shorter than the other one. He received aquarobic therapy and spent so much time in the water that at age 18, he started competing in swimming. His disability was serious enough that he had difficulty walking, and being in water was a relief.
