Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) is a public university in Moorhead, Minnesota. The school has an enrollment of 7,534 students in 2019 and 266 full-time faculty members. MSUM is a part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. MSUM is located on the western border of Minnesota on the Red River of the North in Moorhead; across the river lies Fargo, North Dakota. History The plans for what would become MSUM were laid down in 1885, when the Minnesota State Legislature passed a bill declaring the need for a new state normal school in the Red River Valley, with an eye on Moorhead. The State Senator who proposed the bill, State Senator Solomon Comstock, donated and appropriated the funds that would go to form Moorhead Normal School, which opened in 1888. The North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) is a public college in Wahpeton, North Dakota. It is part of the North Dakota University System. Founded in 1903 by provision of the state constitution, the State College of Science offers degrees, certificates, and diplomas in more than 80 academic options in traditional career and technical studies as well as the liberal arts. The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is an institutional accreditor in the United States. It has historically accredited post-secondary education institutions in the central United States: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Roland Dille
Roland Paul Dille (September 16, 1924 – May 26, 2014) was an American academic. He was president of Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) from 1968 to 1994. Biography Dille was born on a farm near Dassel, Minnesota. He took a bachelor’s degree in English Literature at the University of Minnesota. While serving in the Army during World War II he was awarded the Bronze Star. After military service, he earned a doctorate from Minnesota in 1962, with a thesis "David Garnett and the Bloomsbury group." Career From 1956 to 1961 he taught at St. Olaf College in Northfield, then at California Lutheran College, and finally came to Moorhead in 1963. He was dean of academic affairs there from 1966, and president from 1968. He retired in 1994. Oliver Morton Dickerson
Oliver Morton Dickerson (September 8, 1875 – November 26, 1966) was an American historian, author, and educator. Like his fellow historians Charles McLean Andrews and Lawrence Henry Gipson, Dickerson was a proponent of the "Imperial school" of historians who believed that the American colonies could not be studied or understood except as part of the British Empire. Among his publications were works on the British Board of Trade, the Navigation Acts, and Boston under military rule.
