Falls County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 16,968. The county seat is Marlin. It is named for the original 10-foot-tall waterfall on the Brazos River, which existed until the river changed course during a storm in 1866. Texas State Highway 7
State Highway 7 (SH 7) is an east–west state highway that runs from Interstate 35 at Eddy to U.S. Highway 84 about west of the Texas-Louisiana state line. Between Crockett and Nacogdoches, SH 7 passes through the Davy Crockett National Forest. Commissioned on April 4, 1917, SH 7 is one of the original state highways established in Texas, and has been re-routed several times since its original conception. Chilton is a census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated community in Falls County, Texas, United States. It had a population of 776 at the 2020 census. It is located in western Falls County. U.S. Route 77 forms the western edge of the community, leading north to Waco and south to Rosebud. Texas State Highway 7 passes through the center of Chilton, leading east to Marlin, the county seat, and west to Bruceville-Eddy. The Chilton Independent School District offers extra-curricular activities, most notably football, which is played in the stadium at Featherston Field.
