Moonbird
''Moonbird'' is a 1959 short animation, animated film by John Hubley and Faith Hubley in which two boys have an adventure in the middle of the night as they sneak out and try to catch a 'Moonbird' and bring it home. The film was animated by Robert Cannon and Ed Smith. It won an Academy Awards, Oscar for Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, Best Short Subjects (Cartoons) at the 32nd Academy Awards, in 1960. Production ''Moonbird'' featured the voices of the Hubley's sons, Mark and Ray ("Hampy"). For the ''Moonbird'', the Hubleys secretly recorded the boys sharing an imaginary adventure before going to sleep in the darkness of their room. John Hubley
John Kirkham Hubley (May 21, 1914 – February 21, 1977) was an American animation director, art director, producer and writer known for his work with the United Productions of America , United Productions of America (UPA) and his own independent studio, Storyboard, Inc. (later renamed Hubley Studio). A pioneer and innovator in the Animation in the United States in the television era, American animation industry, Hubley pushed for more visually and emotionally complex films than those being produced by contemporaries like the The Walt Disney Company, Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Animation, Warner Brothers Animation. He and his second wife, Faith Hubley (neé Chestman), with whom he directed alongside from 1959 onward, were nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning three. Faith Hubley
Faith Hubley (née Chestman; September 16, 1924 – December 7, 2001) was an American animator, known for her experimental work both in collaboration with her husband John Hubley, and on her own following her husband's death. Biography Born to Sally and Irving Chestman, Russian-Jewish immigrants, she grew up with three siblings on Manhattan's West Side during the 1920s and 1930s. She spoke little about her childhood and left home at age 15 to work in the theater, adopting the name Faith Elliott. At age 18, she moved to Hollywood, starting as a messenger at Columbia Pictures. She subsequently worked as a sound-effects and music editor, and then script clerk for Republic Pictures. She later worked as a script supervisor (''12 Angry Men'') and editor (''Go, Man, Go''; with the Harlem Globetrotters). The Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film is an award given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) as part of the annual Academy Awards, or Oscars, since the 5th Academy Awards (with different names), covering the year 1931–32, to the present.
