Moon Shin
Moon Shin (, January 16, 1922 – May 24, 1995) was a South Korean painter and sculptor whose childhood name was Moon Ahn-shin. His date of birth was reported late and is erroneously stated as 1923 in most publications. Moon was one of 24 artists invited to France for an international exhibition in 1989 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. One of his pieces can be found in SOMA sculptor park celebrating the 1988 Summer Olympics Seoul. Biography Born in Takeo, Japan, his family moved to father's hometown, Masan in current Gyeongsangnam-do. Since mother's family never accepted the existence of his father, he had to set apart from her at 5. 1988 Summer Olympics
The 1988 Summer Olympics (), officially known as the Games of the XXIV Olympiad () and commonly known as Seoul 1988 ( ko, 서울 1988, Seoul Cheon gubaek palsip-pal), was an international multi-sport event held from 17 September to 2 October 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. 159 nations were represented at the games by a total of 8,391 athletes (6,197 men and 2,194 women). 237 events were held and 27,221 volunteers helped to prepare the Olympics. The 1988 Seoul Olympics were the second summer Olympic Games held in Asia and the first held in South Korea. As the host country, South Korea ranked fourth overall, winning 12 gold medals and 33 medals in the competition. 11,331 media (4,978 written press and 6,353 broadcasters) showed the Games all over the world. South Korean Sculptors
South is one of the cardinal directions or compass points. The direction is the opposite of north and is perpendicular to both east and west. Kim Whanki (Korean: 김환기; hanja: 金煥基; April 3, 1913 – July 25, 1974) was a painter and pioneering abstract artist of Korea,Kim, Youngna. ''20th Century Korean Art.'' Park Naehyeon
Park Rehyun (,1920–1976) was a Korean painter. She is regarded as a pioneer of modern Korean art during the late Japanese Colonial period and the following decades. Biography Park was born in the city of Jinnampo in South Korea's South Pyongan Province. Graduating from Gyeongseong high school in 1937, she entered the Tokyo Women's School of Fine Arts in 1941 during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Park married a celebrated artist, Kim Ki-chang, with whom she presented exhibitions and private showcases, helped highlight her work though she was already beginning her journey by herself. Her works sought to use oriental materials to provide for western-style artwork. A pioneering woman painter, she rejected prejudices against women and completed her own paintings with passion. Her youngest daughter, who is a nun in South Korea, said in an interview that she had spent her life as a good mother, as well as a committed painter and wife. Kim Heungsou
Kim Heungsou (Hangul: 김흥수; Hanja: 金興洙; November 17, 1919 – June 9, 2014) was a Korean painter who was sometimes called the "Picasso of Korea". Jang soo hyun, his partner and executive curator of Kim Heungsou museum died of ovarian cancer in November 2012. Biography Born in Hamheung in Korea under Japanese rule, he graduated from Tokyo Art school (東京美術學校). After the independence of the Korean Peninsula, he sat as deputy of Seoul Art high school and lecturer in Seoul National University. In 1955, he studied painting in Paris, and his works were submitted to Salon d'Automne. Thereafter, he initiated an individual art showcase and held exhibitions several times, starting from Paris, gained access to the European market. Yi Eungro
Yi Eungro (in Hangul:이응노, in Hanja:李應魯, or Ung-no Lee; January 12, 1904 – January 10, 1989) was a Korean-born French painter whose works were chiefly focused on Eastern art, Korean paintings and printmaking, printmaker. He was born in Hongseong County, Chungcheongnam-do and spent his childhood in Yesan county. Biography He learned how to paint and become concentrated on art work under Kim gyujin who was a famed calligrapher in Seoul, Hanyang, current Seoul. Kim taught Yi about Four Gentlemen, Ink wash painting. Next year, he was accepted to the art exhibition of Chosun, under the title of Mukjuk(inkwashing bamboo) and then graduated from Gawabata Art school which was shut down during Pacific War.
