Moominvalley
Moominvalley ( sv, Mumindalen, fi, Muumilaakso) is a fictional place, where the Moomins live in the tales by Finnish author Tove Jansson. Especially in the early books Moominvalley is depicted as a beautiful place with green slopes, rivers, fruit trees, flowers and a place for calm and peaceful life as in the tradition of pastoral poetry, and yet it is still threatened by natural forces such as flooding and volcanoes. The valley is surrounded by Lonely Mountains in the east and by other mountains in the south, while the west faces the sea. Thus, travel on land is often preceded by mountain climbing in the stories. It was inspired by Ängsmarn, a family retreat in Sweden, which is also situated on a grassy field facing the sea and surrounded by rocky outcrops. Tove Jansson
Tove Marika Jansson (; 9 August 1914 – 27 June 2001) was a Swedish-speaking population of Finland, Swedish-speaking Finnish author, novelist, painter, illustrator and comic strip author. Brought up by artistic parents, Jansson studied art from 1930 to 1938 in Stockholm, Helsinki and Paris. Her first solo art exhibition was in 1943. At the same time, she was writing short stories and articles for publication, as well as creating the graphics for book covers and other purposes. She continued to work as an artist and a writer for the rest of her life. Jansson wrote the ''Moomins, Moomin'' books for children, starting in 1945 with ''The Moomins and the Great Flood''. The next two books, ''Comet in Moominland'' and ''Finn Family Moomintroll'', published in 1946 and 1948 respectively, were highly successful in sales, adding to sales of the first book. Moominpappa At Sea
''Moominpappa at Sea'' (Swedish: ''Pappan och havet'', literally "The Father and the Sea") is the eighth book in the Moomin books by Finnish author Tove Jansson. It is based primarily around the character of Moominpappa, who was heavily inspired by Jansson's father, Viktor Jansson. It was first published in 1965. The novel is set contemporaneously with ''Moominvalley in November'' (1970), and is the final installment in the series where the titular Moomin family are present within the narrative. ''Moominpappa at Sea'' forms the basis of episodes 25 and 26 in the 1990 TV series. The original title is a loose reference to Ernest Hemingway novel ''The Old Man and the Sea'', though this is not reflected in the translation. After Tove Jansson's death, the producer of the 1990 Moomin TV series, Dennis Livson, planned to make a film adaptation based on ''Moominpappa at Sea,'' but Tove Jansson's niece Sophia Jansson did not give him permission for the adaptation.
