Moody Bluegrass
Moody Bluegrass is a bluegrass music project that produced two tribute albums to the British progressive rock band the Moody Blues. The albums consist of bluegrass-style cover versions of Moody Blues songs performed by a variety of noted bluegrass and country music artists. Albums ''Moody Bluegrass: A Nashville Tribute to the Moody Blues'' The first album, ''Moody Bluegrass: A Nashville Tribute to the Moody Blues'', was conceived by Randey Faulkner and produced by bluegrass musician and luthier David Harvey. The album, released September 28, 2004 by Rounder Records, included performances by Alison Krauss, Harley Allen, John Cowan, Sam Bush, Tim O'Brien, and Harvey himself, among others. "The Voice" is the second single released from the Moody Blues' 1981 album ''Long Distance Voyager''. The song continued the success of previous single " Gemini Dream", becoming a Top 40 hit on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, where it peaked at No. 15 in October 1981. The song had previously topped the ''Billboard'' Top Rock Tracks chart for four weeks during June–July 1981. The song also reached No. 9 in Canada. Content The album begins with a poem accompanied by electronic sounds, and these sounds also appear at the close of the album Most European vinyl pressings of the album continue the sounds into the album's run-out groove, causing them to play continuously until the record player's tonearm is lifted. Tape and CD versions of the album employ a slow fade. Release ''On the Threshold of a Dream'' was released on 25 April 1969 in the UK and 30 May 1969 in the US. ''On the Threshold of a Dream'' provided the Moody Blues with their first British number-one album, and also boosted their American fortunes by becoming their first top-20 album there. ''Spirits of the Western Sky'' is a solo album by Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues. It was Hayward's first solo album since his 1996 album '' The View from the Hill''. Background The album was recorded in Genoa in Italy and in Nashville. On it, Hayward explores new areas – country and bluegrass on tracks like "What You Resist Persists", "Broken Dream" from ''The View from the Hill'' and "It’s Cold Outside of Your Heart" from The Moody Blues' 1983 album ''The Present''. Orchestration on the album is by Anne Dudley, an English composer and pop musician who has worked in both classical and pop genres. ''In Search of the Lost Chord'' is the third album by The Moody Blues, released in July 1968 on the Deram label. Content ''In Search of the Lost Chord'' is a concept album around a broad theme of quest and discovery, including world exploration (" Dr. Livingstone, I Presume"), music and philosophy through the ages ("House of Four Doors"), lost love (" The Actor"), spiritual development (" Voices in the Sky"), knowledge in a changing world ("Ride My See-Saw"), higher consciousness ("Legend of a Mind"), imagination ("The Best Way to Travel"), and space exploration ("Departure"). Michael Thomas Pinder (born 27 December 1941) is an English rock musician, and is a founding member and original keyboard player of the British rock group the Moody Blues. He left the group following the recording of the band's ninth album ''Octave (album), Octave'' in 1978. He is especially noted for his technological contribution to music. In 2018, Pinder was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues. The Moody Blues Early years Pinder was born in Erdington, Birmingham. Raymond Thomas (29 December 1941 – 4 January 2018) was an English multi-instrumentalist, flautist, singer, founding member and composer in the English progressive rock band the Moody Blues. His flute solo on the band's 1967 hit single "Nights in White Satin" is regarded as one of progressive rock's defining moments. In 2018, he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues. Graeme Charles Edge (30 March 1941 – 11 November 2021) was an English musician, songwriter and poet, best known as the co-founder and drummer of the English band the Moody Blues. In addition to his work with the Moody Blues, Edge worked as the bandleader of his own outfit, the Graeme Edge Band. He contributed his talents to a variety of other projects throughout his career. John Charles Lodge (born 20 July 1945) is an English musician, best known as bass guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter of the longstanding rock band the Moody Blues. David Justin Hayward (born 14 October 1946) is an English musician best known as the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of the rock band the Moody Blues. Hayward became the group's principal lead guitarist and vocalist over the 1967–1974 period, and the most prolific songwriter and composer of several international hit singles for the band.
