Monza Biennial
The Milan Biennial was the first edition of the Milan Biennial. This, and the 3 subsequent biennials, were organised by the Istituto Superiore per le Industrie Artistiche (ISIA) to provide an arts vision for the new Kingdom of Italy. It was called the ''International Exhibition of Decorative Arts''. Exhibitions included a ''Futurist Hall'' by Fortunato Depero. Royal Villa Of Monza
The Royal Villa (Italian: ''Villa Reale'') is a historical building in Monza, northern Italy. It lies on the banks of the Lambro river, surrounded by the large Monza Park, one of the largest enclosed parks in Europe. The Royal Villa, which is also called the Palace of Monza, is neoclassical palace built by the Habsburgs as a private residence during the Austrian domination of the 18th century. It became the residence of the viceroy with the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy but it lost this function progressively during the Kingdom of Italy of Savoy, the last Royals to use it. Nowadays, it hosts exhibitions, and a wing hosts also the Artistic High School of Monza. ISIA - Istituto Superiore per le Industrie Artistiche (''Higher Institute for Artistic Industries''), is the name of four Italian universities, which train students in the field of design. The ISIAs are in Rome, Florence, Faenza and Urbino. They are public institutions under the umbrella of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, AFAM (''Artistic and Musical Higher Education'', Italian: ''Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale'') division. Fortunato Depero
Fortunato Depero (30 March 1892 – 29 November 1960) was an Italian futurist painter, writer, sculptor, and graphic designer. Biography Although born in Fondo or in the neighboring village of Malosco, according to other sources (in the Italian Trentino region, at that time the County of Tyrol in the Austrian-Hungarian empire), Depero grew up in Rovereto and it was here he first began exhibiting his works, while serving as an apprentice to a marble worker. It was on a 1913 trip to Florence that he discovered a copy of the paper ''Lacerba'' and an article by one of the founders of the futurism movement, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. Depero was inspired, and in 1914 moved to Rome and met fellow futurist Giacomo Balla. It was with Balla in 1915 that he wrote the manifesto ''Ricostruzione futurista dell’universo'' ("Futurist Reconstruction of the Universe") which expanded upon the ideas introduced by the other futurists. Milan Triennial
The ''Milan Triennial'' (Triennale di Milano) is an art and design exhibition that takes place every three years at the Triennale di Milano Museum in Milan, Italy. History The exhibition was originally established in 1923 as a biennial architecture and industrial design event. The first five editions took place in Monza. In 1933 the exhibition was relocated to Milan and the format was changed to a triennial basis. The designated venue was the new Palazzo dell’Arte designed by architect Giovanni Muzio, featuring Gio Ponti's Torre Branca. The Triennial was recognised by the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) in 1933. With Ponti and artist Mario Sironi at the helm, the 5th Triennale expanded its field to visual art, with mural paintings made by artists such as Giorgio de Chirico, Massimo Campigli and Carlo Carrà.
