Monty Betham Sr.
Monty Betham (born 27 September 1952 in Savai'i) was a Samoan professional boxer who fought boxers such as Tony Mundine, and Lance Revill in a professional career beginning in 1973 until 1984. He is the father of former New Zealand Warriors rugby league star Monty Betham. He is also the older brother of Richard Betham, who won a bronze medal for Western Samoa in boxing at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. In July 1975 he won the Commonwealth middleweight boxing title, after defeating Carlos Marks. he retained the title in February 1976 after defeating Semi Bula. La’auli Montgomery Junior "Monty" Betham (born 12 March 1978) is a professional boxer, and former professional rugby league footballer. A New Zealand international representative and , he played club football for the New Zealand Warriors in the National Rugby League, and for the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats (captain) ( Heritage № 1234) in the Super League. The 1978 Commonwealth Games were held in Edmonton, Alberta from 3 to 12 August 1978, two years after the 1976 Summer Olympics were held in Montreal, Quebec. They were boycotted by Nigeria, in protest at New Zealand's sporting contacts with apartheid-era South Africa, as well as by Uganda, in protest at alleged Canadian hostility towards the government of Idi Amin. The Bid Election was held at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. This was the first Commonwealth Games where a computerised system was used to handle ticket sales. Richard Betham is a Western Samoan former boxer who competed in the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada. He won bronze in the middleweight division after losing his semi-final bout to Philip McElwaine of Australia. In his first bout, Betham defeated Ansil Thomas of Guyana in a quarter-final contest. New Zealand Warriors
The New Zealand Warriors are a professional rugby league football club based in Auckland, New Zealand that competes in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership and is the League's only team from outside Australia. They were formed in 1995 as the Auckland Warriors, and are officially known as the One New Zealand Warriors for sponsorship reasons. The Warriors are coached by Andrew Webster and captained by Tohu Harris. The Warriors are based at Mount Smart Stadium in the Auckland suburb of Penrose. For the 1995 season the newly formed Auckland Warriors became the first club from outside Australia to be admitted to the Australian Rugby League's premiership when it expanded from 16 to 20 teams.
