Donaldson Romeo (born 1962) is a politician from Montserrat. He is currently a member of the Legislative Assembly of Montserrat and served as the island's Premier from September 2014 until November 2019. Having formerly worked as an artist and a journalist, he was first elected to parliament as an independent candidate in 2011. Biography Romeo was born in Salem, Montserrat in 1962. He attended Salem Primary School and Montserrat Secondary School, before becoming a pupil at the George School, a boarding school in the United States. Biography He launched his election campaign (for the early general election of 8 September 2009) on 28 July 2009. His party won the majority, garnering six of the nine seats up for grabs, while former chief minister Dr Lowell Lewis and two other independents took the remaining seats. Meade was congratulated by his political opponent, Lewis, and said that the revival of the economy of Montserrat would be his main priority. The Premier of Montserrat is the head of government of the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat. The Premier is appointed by the Governor of Montserrat on behalf of the monarch of the United Kingdom, currently King Charles III. The current Premier of Montserrat is Easton Taylor-Farrell of the Movement for Change and Prosperity. The Premier is appointed by the Governor from among the members of the Legislative Assembly, which consists of nine elected members. Between 1960 and 2011 the position was known as the Chief Minister of Montserrat, this changed on 27 September 2011 when the Montserrat Constitution Order 2010 took effect. The first Premier of Montserrat was Reuben Meade, who was also the last Chief Minister. The Cabinet has replaced the Executive Council and consists of the Premier, the Attorney-General, the Financial Secretary, and three other ministers. Montserrat ( ) is a British Overseas Territories, British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. It is part of the Leeward Islands, the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles chain of the West Indies. Montserrat is about long and wide, with roughly of coastline.
