Montréal-Nord Borough Council
The Montréal-Nord borough council is the local governing body of Montréal-Nord, a borough in the City of Montreal. The council consists of five members: the borough mayor (who also serves as a Montreal city councillor), two city councillors representing the borough's electoral districts, and two borough councillors representing the same electoral districts. Montréal-Nord is former Montreal mayor Denis Coderre's home territory, and his Équipe Denis Coderre pour Montréal party is the dominant party in the borough. Montréal-Nord
Montreal North (french: Montréal-Nord) is a borough (''arrondissement'') of the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It consists entirely of the former city of Montréal-Nord on Island of Montreal in southwestern Quebec. It was amalgamated into the City of Montreal on January 1, 2002. Around the start of the 21st century, Montréal-Nord developed a reputation of being one of Montreal's most dangerous boroughs, along with Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. The mayor of Montreal is head of the executive branch of the Montreal City Council. The current mayor is Valérie Plante, who was elected into office on November 5, 2017, and sworn in on November 16. Denis Coderre
Denis Coderre (born July 25, 1963) is a Canadian politician from Quebec. Coderre was the member of Parliament for the riding of Bourassa from 1997 until 2013, and was the Immigration minister from 2002 to 2003 and became the mayor of Montreal in 2013, but lost in 2017 to Valérie Plante. In 2021, he was defeated once again by Valérie Plante after a second mayoral race. He has been an administrator of Eurostar since 2018 and special advisor for the FIA since 2019. The Montreal City Council (french: Conseil municipal de Montréal) is the governing body in the mayor–council government in the city of Montreal, Quebec. The head of the city government in Montreal is the mayor, who is first among equals in the city council. The council is a democratically elected institution and is the final decision-making authority in the city, although much power is centralized in the executive committee. Christine Black
Christine Black is a politician in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She has served as borough mayor of Montréal-Nord and as a member of Montreal City Council since winning a by-election in April 2016. Black is a member of Ensemble Montréal. Early career Originally from Montreal's South Shore area, Black moved to Montréal-Nord at age twenty to work for the ''Centre des jeunes l'Escale'' (English: L'Escale Youth Centre). She became the organization's director in 2006 and held this position until the time of her election to public office. The Université du Québec à Montréal (English: University of Quebec in Montreal), also known as UQAM, is a French-language public university based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
