Jorge García Montes
Jorge García Montes y Hernandez (19 October 1896 – 21 June 1982) was a Cuban lawyer and politician. Montes was born in New York City on 19 October 1896, where his father, José María García Montes, was in exile during the Cuban War of Independence against the Spaniards. Montes graduated from the University of Havana School of Law in 1917. He married Concepción Morales y de la Torre (1905–) on 21 January 1924 in Havana and they had a daughter, Graciela. He was a Representative from 1922–1944 as a member of the Liberal Party of Cuba. He went into exile during the Cuban Revolution of 1933 that overthrew General Gerardo Machado, and returned two years later. He was a Senator from 1954 to 1959, and Prime Minister from 24 February 1955 to 26 March 1957, in the government of General Fulgencio Batista. He was then Minister of Education between 1957 and 1959. Yolanda Yvonne Montes Farrington (born January 3, 1932), better known by her stage-name Tongolele, is an American-Mexican dancer, actress and vedette. Early life Yolanda Yvonne Montes Farrington, was born in Spokane, Washington, United States, on January 3, 1932. Her father, Elmer Sven Móntes, descended from a Spanish father and a Swedish mother. Her mother, Edna Pearl Farrington, of English father and French mother. Her maternal grandmother, Molly (Maeva), was from Tahiti. As a child, she danced for the International Ballet of San Francisco, California as part of a Tahitian Revue. Virginia Elenor Montes (1943 – October 6, 1994) was a civil rights activist and feminist who was the first Latina to become a national officer of the National Organization for Women. Biography Ginny Montes was born in 1943 in Guanaja, Honduras. Her family moved to Tampa, Florida, when she was ten years old. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Tampa, and attended the University of Florida, receiving a B.A. with a major in Sociology in 1968. Segundo Montes (May 15, 1933 in Valladolid, Spain – November 16, 1989 in San Salvador, El Salvador) was a scholar, philosopher, educator, sociologist and Jesuit priest. He was one of the victims of the 1989 murders of Jesuits in El Salvador. Biography Segundo Montes grew up in Valladolid, Spain, where he also went to secondary school until 1950. On August 15, 1950, he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in Orduña. After a year there, he moved to Santa Tecla in El Salvador under the mentorship of Miguel Elizondo, who described him as an adolescent who hit the football so hard against the wall of the Iglesia El Carmen that he rattled the roof tiles.
