Montenegro is a '' cortijada'' or hamlet part of the municipality of Alpujarra de la Sierra, province of Granada, Andalusia, Spain. It currently has only 5 adult inhabitants. It is located on the old GR 7 trading route (now a long-distance footpath) that runs from Algeciras to Greece. Alpujarra de la Sierra is a municipality located in the province of Granada, Spain. According to the 2007 census (INE), the city has a population of 1168 inhabitants. History It was formed by the union in 1971 of Mecina Bombarón and Yegen, and is situated in the central-northern area of La Alpujarra ( Granada), 108 km from the provincial capital, in the south-east of Spain. It is bounded by the municipalities of Lanteira, Válor, Ugíjar, Cádiar and Bérchules. GR 7 (Spain)
The GR 7 is a long-distance footpath in Spain, Andorra and France. It is part of both the Spanish network of ''Senderos de Gran Recorrido'' and the French network of ''Sentiers de Grandes Randonnées''. Part of GR 7 forms the south-westernmost part of the European walking route E4 in Spain. GR 7 runs from Tarifa, near Gibraltar, across Spain, through France into Andorra, and back into France to Mont Aigoual and Aire-de-Côte in the Cevennes. Aben Humeya
Aben Humeya (1520–1569), also known as Muhammad ibn Umayyah ( ar, محمد بن أمية), was a Morisco leader who commanded the Morisco Revolt against Philip II of Spain in the Alpujarras region, near Granada. Early life Aben Humeya was born Fernando de Válor into a Morisco family and claimed to be of noble lineage, descended from the Umayyad dynasty. The name Aben Humeya is the Hispanicized version of the Arabic name ''Ibn Umayya'', meaning "Son of Umayya" and hinting to a descent from the Umayyads. Prior to the commencement of the Morisco revolt, Aben Humeya had been a town councilor of Granada and had been under house arrest for pulling out a dagger in the city council.
