''Monte Carlo Madness'' is a 1932 German Musical film, musical comedy film directed by Hanns Schwarz and starring Sari Maritza, Hans Albers and Charles Redgie. It was an English-language version of the 1931 German film ''Bombs on Monte Carlo (1931 film), Bombs on Monte Carlo'', which was based on the 1930 novel ''Bomben auf Monte Carlo (novel), Bombs on Monte Carlo'' by Fritz Reck-Malleczewen. The screenplay concerns a captain who falls in love with a Queen in Monte Carlo. It cost to produce. The film's sets were designed by the art director Erich Kettelhut. Hanns Schwarz
Hanns Schwarz (11 February 1888 – 27 October 1945) was an Austrian Empire, Austrian film director. He was born in Vienna on 11 February 1888. Biography He directed twenty four films between 1924 and 1937 in both English-language, English and German-language, German. During the late silent film, silent and early sound era, sound eras, he was a leading director at the large German studio Universum Film AG, UFA. In the early 1930s he worked on several Multiple-language version, multi-language version films for UFA, producing the same films in distinct German and foreign-language versions. Schwarz was Jewish and was therefore forced to leave Germany in 1933 when the Nazis took over, going into exile in Britain. His last film was the 1937 British thriller ''Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel''. He died in California on 27 October 1945. Charles Redgie was a French-based film actor who appeared in thirty six productions between 1930 and 1939.Goble p.385 He starred in the French-language film ''Captain Craddock'' (1931) and its English-language version '' Monte Carlo Madness'' (1932). Operetta films (German: Operettenfilm) are a genre of musical films associated with, but not exclusive to, German language cinema. The genre began in the late 1920s, but its roots stretch back into the tradition of nineteenth century Viennese operettas. Although some silent films had based their plots on stage operettas, the genre was largely a result of the switch from silent to sound films. The 1929 film ''Melody of the Heart'', made by the German studio UFA, is credited as being the first "Operetta film". The Comedian Harmonists were an internationally famous, all-male German close harmony ensemble that performed between 1928 and 1934 as one of the most successful musical groups in Europe before World War II. Erich Karl Heinrich Kettelhut (1 November 1893 – 13 March 1979) was a German production designer, Art director#In film, art director and set decorator. Kettelhut is considered one of the most important artists in the history of early German cinema, mainly for his set direction for ''Die Nibelungen'' (1924) and his design and visual effects for ''Metropolis (1927 film), Metropolis'' (1927). His early career was defined by a working relationship with fellow designers Otto Hunte and Karl Vollbrecht, the trio working on many of Fritz Lang's early German films. Despite being best known for his iconic visuals on several of the most important films of German Expressionism, German Expressionist cinema, he is also noted for a career spanning into the 1960s and his work on more light-hearted films and musicals.
